Keep in mind that this patch removes the ability to stack the base S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats to 11 which is usually done by adding the bobblehead of a stat after reaching 10 points via perks.

This is an interesting idea, however your solution makes the player character overtuned, because you have to remember that in Vanilla the stat increases are locked to a stat and capped at 1 per stat, whereas with this mod you'll be able to redistribute unwanted bonuses where you want them without a cap.

The proper solution would be to make the player start with 2 in each stat and keep the vanilla amount of distributable points.

That's a fair perspective I hadn't considered, but I think if I had I still would have gone this way for the sake of not taking away the ability to play with 1-point attributes for the heck/challenge/fun of it. That said, now that it's on my mind I'll pop open the CK later to see if changing the minimum is as simple as changing the points was. If it is, I might add an optional "enforced balance" version.

Update: Nope. I can change the starting value for the player's stats to 2 but don't see an immediately evident way to set a hard minimum that affects the level up menu. Tested it and it does subtract pre-assigned points from what you're given to distribute, so it indeed looks like starting with 2 in each and the vanilla amount of distributables, but it still allows the player to reduce those 2s to 1s and put the points where they like. So, not worth the bother of either an alt version or an update as it would both not actually prevent the concern and require a conflict-inviting edit to the player actor.

About the stickied post, does this mean I can up the stats to 11 from the get go?

It does not, 10 is still the maximum a stat can be set to at the start.

If there's any other way to increase the base value of a stat past 10 either in the base game, or added with other mods, those should continue to work as expected.

Clever. Might try this on next playthrough. Any chance for an ESL version?

So what exactly happens if you install this mid-playthrough? Do you just get the points added to you so that you can use them?

No, this is really only meant for new games. If you add it to a game in progress, all it'll do is remove the point grant from the SPECIAL bobbleheads you haven't found yet. Adding it to an existing game then using the console to raise your stats by however many bobble-points you haven't picked up yet would produce the same effect, though.

You should also add the one from the "You are special" book in Shaun's room

Considered it but opted not to - unlike the bobbleheads, it's in a super safe and accessible location, especially so with a vanilla start. And I guess I just like the symmetry of keeping the starting points a multiple of 7.
