The staple eye-wear of scientists and grandpas throughout the Capital and Mojave wastelands returns as a new, standalone piece of clothing for Fallout 4!
-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
Overview:
-------------------------------------------
The Buddy Holly Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunco glasses that dotted the last generation of Fallout games makes a return as a low-key and lore-friendly alternative to the hideous Black-Rim Glasses. This mod will add two new pieces of eye-wear to the game and (via script) inject them into a few leveled lists:
Thick-Rim Glasses: +1 INT
Thick-Rim Sunglasses: +1 CHR (Same mesh with a copper-tone reflective lenses. Limited run for cool dudes/dudettes)
The one overwrite I did make was to replace the mesh for Liam's Glasses, a unique version of the Black-Rim Glasses.
-------------------------------------------
Design:
-------------------------------------------
This is a scratch made 'remastered' version of the glasses mesh from Fallout 3. It won't bend and twist to conform to character faces to get some of the wacky shapes as the old game, but design wise, it's a faithful recreation. They're just over 1k polys and textured to 1k maps, but are sufficiently detailed enough for high-rez closeups. The whole mod is only about 5MB, and should provide equal texture detail to the high-rez patch textures for the base game.
-------------------------------------------
Where to get:
-------------------------------------------
Both were added to these leveled lists:
Prewar Clothing - you'll have ~ a 1 in 30 chance of finding either in prewar containers like dressers, suitcases, anywhere you'd normally otherwise find objects like laundered blue dresses.
Rare clothing vendor stock - Top tier clothing vendors have a chance to stock either type.
Fallon's in Diamond City has the best concrete chance to yield a pair.
If you have Liam's glasses (A late-game institute side quest reward), the model will automatically switch.
If you're looking for a guaranteed find, both the eye and sunglasses can be found in the first zone of ArcJet systems - the eyeglasses are on a table in the entrance lobby and the sunglasses are on a table in a boardroom halfway through the dungeon.
You can also spawn a pair with the following help/additem commands in the console:
'help thick 4' / find the editor ID of the version from the list / 'player.additem [that ID you just found] 1'
-------------------------------------------
Compatibility:
-------------------------------------------
Because these inject via runtime script, they won't interfere with any other clothing mods.
These are currently not compatible with any clothing mods. Want to make a patch? Let me know and I'll be happy to add them to the description/
-------------------------------------------
Bugs:
-------------------------------------------
Because they share the same types of shaders as the vanilla glasses and sunglasses, there'll be instances where the lenses will look like they're glowing or super flat - this is normal for the eyeglass shader in the base game.
-------------------------------------------
Other Remarks:
-------------------------------------------
Want to use these in another mod/modpack/total conversion? Making a character that these things would go just perfect on and you'd like to include the files? Want these to be compatible with a common framework or something, and don't mind doing the work yourself? Want to make and upload a localization patch? Go ahead! As long as credit me for the work done, I'm fine with it! I'd love to see where these things get used, so feel free to tell me when you are going to use them, just don't wait for me to give explicit permission. If you want me to add a link to your mod in this description page, just message me.
