Not for me, I already knew what engineering mode was. =) But yeah, probably was good to fill that out a bit, good job.
...do they not teach trig in schools anymore? ;-) ...only "how to use iPhone 101" now? =P
Seeing this, I wonder if anyone will be able to make a full operating environment in BASIC for the Pip boy. That would be a cool undertaking, being able to make games within a game. Mind you, you'd have to make a system that includes tapes to save programs to. What an undertaking that would be.
It may sound like a coincidence but I have some ideas about integrating a programming (very simple) environment into the Pip-Boy. Generally speaking, there are 2 clear ways to do this. The first is writing your in-game OS through the F4SE, but I haven't study enough the code of the script extender project. The second is to write SWF program (yeah, those Pip-Boy games are just Flash programs!) and inserting it into the Pip-Boy.
Someone tried to convert existing flash games for the Pipboy. The results were... Heu... If it work, you are one of the few lucky guys. I'll suggest starting with text based games to see where it goes. And for the previous attempt, as they are restricted material, you will have to check another archive.
I just thought I could create the in-game program that conducts the feeling of scientific and technological mystery and greatness, which pre-war american society had. For the person like me, who loves these misty and dreadful descriptions of mighty technologies, especially in post-nuclear conception, it is always hard to understand why there are SO MANY computer-oriented machinery, stories and knowledge in Fallout, but none of it (speaking of terminals) is useful except of decoration, activating some quest driven mechanisms and displaying text. Computer must COMPUTE! That's why I made this mod.
I could totally see this being a part of a puzzle quest mod. ...using the calc to find coordinates, angles...answers, in whatever form, of questions to progress (and no cheating with iPhone calc).
Actually I have some thoughts about an adventure mod, when you receive an encoded message to your Pip-Boy with coordinates of mysterious place and you you have to decipher this message using some calculations... Well, I don't want to uncover this for now =)
GOD JOB BUT ITS TO HARD TO USE FOR PEOPLE THAT DONT KNOW HOW TO USE A scientific Calculator AND IF YOU A BUILDING A HOUSE OR SETTLEMENT CANT USE IT TO DO MATH FAST!
You're right about "calculation speed"! This is just a prototype of, as you all can see, INPUT-OUTPUT system. On a low-level the game engine has no restrictions in input-output (for example, Papyrus language has functions for writing a string to log file). But despite this, the programming capabilities in general are pretty limited. Yes, you can use F4SE functions for intercepting input and for data manipulation, but my goal is to recreate basic input-output system for scientific and computational purposes.
I think in the next version I'll manage to create sort of input panel, which will bring a boost to speed of every operation.
Impressive, reminds me of the giant functional calculator someone made in Minecraft. Well at least when it comes to taking something most all of us take for granted and then managing to create your own. Good work!

Sounds kitschy, but also fun. =)
sounds awesome though cant wait to see what others make from this "new" pip-boy tech
