DO NOT INSTALL THIS MOD IT WILL BREAK YOUR GAME! My game completely stopped working after installing it and I had to reinstall my game just now. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

Did you have anything purchased from CC when you downloaded this?

    Thank you.

Just curious and not very tech or legal savvy.

These files I've just overwritten ...

    - were they actually "products" for sale by Bethesda/CreationClub, being stored; without my explicit consent or knowledge, on my drive?

Seems there's gotta be something illegal about that, since I didn't even know they were there till I read this mod's description.
Since I cannot use these files until I pay for them, shouldn't I at least get some rent from Bethesda for being its unwilling warehouse space??

Any information on this is appreciated. A link to a full description of what the heck is going on with this kind of stuff would be awesome.

Yeah, they are "products" for sale that's more or less beth's way to compete with the local mods.

      Thanks.

Might you also know - is Bethesda's "right" to use my hard drive as an unpaid storage warehouse, due to some legal property re-interpretation, or does my playing the game automatically mean I have "agreed" to be Beth's pack mule, via EULA?

      Legalese should be outlawed!

They're not bethesda's way to compete with mods, they're just microtransactions. If you want reliable legal info, go ask a lawyer specialized in software, not random people on the internet.

You purchased a license to the game, this key line in the ToS gives them the ability to do whatever they want to the game without your permission.

"LICENSOR retains all right, title and interest to this Software, including, but not limited to, all copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, trade names, proprietary rights, patents, titles, computer codes, audiovisual effects, themes, characters, character names, stories, dialog, settings, artwork, sounds effects, musical works, and moral rights."

So that means if they want to add content to which your license covers, they can, without your permission. The only thing they can not do is take something away that was included when you purchased the license without notifying you and offering a full or partial refund (see Sony Other OS case for ruling).

Well the thing is this.. most of us bought the game "before" they threw the Creation Club at us all.. as it was..I didn't want to have something thrown at me "after I purchased the game".. as of something that I would never have bought.. as being their shop front, to what goods that I would never purchase.. as that I can get them for free as mods that were created before their Creation Club.. or near to what they try to scam people to pay for with their Creation Club as a shop front.. I didn't buy the game to then buy the shop front unwillingly after paying.
Any how I have worked out a way with some help from some handy people to not have bethesda break my mods all the time,, with having a set up of the F4SE and a fallout4 exe file of the game, so that any time they want to do an update with their crap creation club all I do is re install 1 file.. the fallout4 exe file.. and that with the CCCleaner mod.. will make sure that I don't even see their added menu item for that crap.

Bethesda can't compete with free mods.. because the modder's know that people don't want bethesda's Conman Club.

I tried this with Vortex, but no matter what I did it would not seem to work. I don't know if it is just me or if this is an issue with Vortex.
So to get the same results, I just compressed those files.

If you don't know how to do that, all you have to do is select all the files starting with "cc" in the Data folder, right click, go to properties, Advanced, click the tick box next to "compress contents", click OK, then Apply. This does the exact same thing as the mod.
NOTE: This cannot be undone, so make a backup of those files if you plan to use cc content in the future.

Works perfectly for me, with Vortex. Simply replaces files with itty-bitty versions. Total size = 224 bytes. FAR better than "compress contents", which only trims ~10% off the total.

Can't I just delete the CC files? I know they'll get reinstalled on the next update, but I could just delete again no? I guess I'm asking what's the advantage of having this mod. Not criticizing, I obviously like the idea of this mod otherwise I wouldn't have found it while searching for "get this cc crap off my computer" content.

Deleting them works fine and does not negatively effect the game at all as long as you haven't bought the content for the BA2 file you deleted. The only downside to deleting them is if your internet/ISP has a data cap that you reach more often than not, because the files will redownload on an update, and if you have to verify your game's file integrity through Steam.
