Samurai roughly translates as to serve if I remember correct or something similar, a Samurai was had a master or Lord and a Samurai with no master or Lord was usually a wandering mercenary whom would seek for a Lord he believed was worthy of his service and if that Lord then accepted him he would then become Samurai but otherwise was a Ronin - A Ronin was a Masterless Samurai for he served no one. It a Samurai's Lord died he would usually go on to serve the Heir but if the house fell (in Conflict with another Lord etc) along with it's Lord leaving no heir then most Samurai would commit ritual suicide or face becoming disgraced Ronin. There is nor real suitable hair mod but most Samurai had a top knot hair style with a shaved pate leaving there forehead exposed, the closest would be the tonsure hair style but it has no top knot to complete it.
Still you have made a great character whom you could imagine to be the descendant of a Samurai house, perhaps mixed race his ancestor either male or female having fallen in love with an American whom had been based in Japan after the second world war, I suppose that would make him a kind of Ronin seeking a cause to serve and out to avenge his family and reclaim his honor.
The Sword you are using is actually more of a Ninja blade so he could also be the Heir to an ancient legacy of Ninja's, there are many legend's about them, some were poor people whom decided to fight back against cruel feudal shogunate era lord's, others may have once been loyal to a former line of emperor's whom were deposed but almost universally they became soldiers of fortune, assassin's of the highest skill whom could take on and kill often far more lethal swordsmen using trickery and poison's.
In the Samurai Castle's many trick's were uses to protect there Lord from Ninja including the Whistling floor board's, the idea was that if the ninja stepped on one it would squeak and alert the Samurai guarding there lord to the Ninja's presence but Ninja were always more and more resourceful and Lord's often hired Ninja to guard against Ninja as well though there loyalty was always suspect.
Here is a more appropriate sword for a Samurai but the one your character is using is fantastic as well and I personally like it because it has custom animation's.
