Aimed at making the game more difficult, realistic and immersive.

ooooooYou can no longer breathe underwater forever. The radiation resistance from Aquaboy/girl has been removed.

ooooooScuba Gear is required to breathe underwater for long durations. Diving suits will provide radiation resistance and other benefits in the water while using Scuba Gear.

ooooooThe Far Harbor Rescue Diver Suit and Marine Wetsuit have been modified with optional patches.

ooooooMirelurk Cakes have been altered. Mainly, their water-breathing effects have been removed.

ooooooTreasure, items, Bethesda-like death scenes and environmental storytelling have been thoughtfully added underwater along the East coast and out at sea. There are many areas under the ocean where you won't find much as my intent was to remain true to Bethesda's original vision.

ooooooCut Content / Game Jam (?): Fishing Rod Weapon (Optional File)

AQUABOY & AQUAGIRL
Spoiler:
Show
Renamed to "Diver"

Rank 1
You can swim faster, hold your breath longer underwater, and utilize Scuba Gear more effectively.

Rank 2
You can swim even faster and hold your breath even longer underwater. While submerged you are totally undetectable. You are proficient in the utilization of Scuba Gear.

*You can't breathe underwater forever and you take full radiation damage from swimming, regardless of which rank you attain.

SCUBA GEAR
Spoiler:
Show
Scuba Gear has been placed at some locations along the East Coast and added to a few vendor leveled lists. They should be rare but obtainable if you shop around.

*When wearing a full scuba (dry) suit, hood, and Rebreather you will receive a radiation boost of 200 only while swimming.

Dry suits & hoods

  • Protect Divers from cold depths. Provide cryo and rad resistance.
  • Buoyant suits help to maneuver in the water; they increase swim speed. Swim speed stacks with Diver perk.

Scuba Tanks

  • Multiply your breath time and stack with Rebreathers and the Diver perk.

*Require a Rebreather to use.
*Scuba tanks can explode if they are damaged while not being worn.
ooooooAesthetic Issue: The Scuba Tank hoses don't connect to anywhere. I'm seeking help from anyone who can help fix this issue.

Rebreather

  • Similar to a standard power armor helmet, Rebreathers multiply your underwater breath time by 5 - allowing you to breathe underwater for longer durations.

In Fallout: New Vegas, an NPC can craft you a Rebreather.
*Craft Rebreathers at the Chemistry Station under SCUBA.
Requires:
  • 4 Adhesive
  • 2 Aluminum
  • 2 Glass
  • 4 Plastic
  • 4 Rubber
  • 1 Screw
  • 1 Spring
  • Science! perk rank 2 (may change back to Science rank 1 at some point)

Far Harbor Marine Wetsuit

  • Increases swim speed.

Far Harbor Rescue Diver Suit

  • No longer allows you to breathe underwater forever.

UNDERWATER TIME CHART
Spoiler:
Show
You can stay underwater for roughly the following amounts of time: (I tested this myself with a stopwatch! rest assured, it works)

(hour:min:sec)
*Scuba Set = Rebreather w/ Scuba Tanks
*Power Armor Helmets stack with the Diver perk, similar to Rebreathers.

MIRELURK CAKES
Spoiler:
Show

  • No longer allow you to breathe underwater when consumed.
  • Value has been decreased from 35 to 20 caps.
  • Description has been changed to "Just an ordinary Mirelurk dish..."
  • Mirelurk Cakes heal 1 HP

UNDERWATER TREASURE
Spoiler:
Show
  • Throughout the East coast of Boston and in the ocean you can find various underwater treasure and Bethesda-like environmental storytelling.
  • You can harvest crystal from the face of a few underwater cliffs and archways scattered throughout the East coast of Boston. It's possible that the crystal might get knocked off the rocks and sink to the bottom.
*DANGER*
In the vanilla game there is Light Radiation Hazards in a few places under the ocean such as where ships would sink or spill their toxic cargo. Building upon this and the chaotic state of Boston's seafloor I have added in a small handful of Strong and Deadly Radiation Hazards in key locations under the ocean. *In these areas you can find hazardous materials such as Lead and Nuclear Material.

FLOATING BARGE LOCATION
Spoiler:
Show
Out in the ocean to the East of Fort Strong you will find an unmarked location: an abandoned floating barge hideout which contains loot and other things. Keep swimming - it's there, you'll find it. Due to pop-ins it doesn't appear right away; it will appear once you are close enough.

ABOUT FLOATING BARGE
The story behind the barge and shack is actually pretty cool. The barge and shack on top already existed in the game albeit sunken to the seafloor in shambles. For Bethesda fans and people like myself this is already interesting and makes you wonder about the history of this location..How long was the barge floating? When was it commandeered? Did people live on it? What caused it to sink? and etc.. There is an extensive network of barges and makeshift island homes constructed from various materials along the coast. Some are still floating while some have been dilapidated asunder.

I decided to raise the barge and shack from the seafloor. You'll find a note which may offer insight into its (un)known history.

FISHING ROD WEAPON
Spoiler:
Show
The Fishing Rod weapon is actually cut/game jam content from Fallout 4!

  • Acquire a fishing rod, then use a cooking station (under the UTILITY section) to turn it into a melee weapon. This is supposed to simulate sitting at a campfire and deciding to wield the rod as a weapon.
*I will eventually create a script which will automatically turn misc fishing rods into weapons when picked up.

  • Very long reach.

  • Weaponized fishing rods are moddable.
ooooooAesthetic Issue: Fishing Rod Weapon modifications are incorrectly positioned. The barbs and blade are misplaced on the rod. I'm seeking help from anyone who can help fix this issue.

ooooooNo Requirements

ooooooSimple Installation: Extract into your Fallout 4\Data folder.

ooooooIn Fallout 4 there are some doors of sunken ships which look like you can swim through them but you can't because they are slanted.

ooooooI've had reports that the perk effects won't work unless you start a new game.

BOSTON UNDERWATER
Spoiler:
Show
In the vanilla game, in the harbor and off the coast, you can find things which belong above water such as sunken buildings, asphalt streets, cars, and etc. It seems the ocean levels rose or the bombs caused catastrophic landslides...

There's also quite a few industrial structures which look like they were meant to be underwater. There is a vast tunnel network under Boston Harbor which extends eastward into the ocean. These underwater structures off the coast may be associated with the Oceanological Research Society or perhaps corporations like Poseidon Energy, General Atomics, or Mass Fusion; these structures could have been built for research or to transfer/dispose hazardous waste materials. I believe the large underwater structure which had videos made about it (with the Nuka Cherry advertisement on it) was originally built underwater before the bombs dropped.

RECOMMENDED
Spoiler:
Show
*DO NOT* install a mod which makes the water clear or easier to see through. Instead you should install this mod which will populate the oceans and bodies of water with mutant fish monsters. You will feel much greater accomplishment and satisfaction becoming a true Diver trudging through the irradiated murky depths and fish monster.

Most people won't admit they are unsettled by the depths. Testing this mod was unnerving for me. If you're one of those people who was always unnerved by large or deep bodies of water (even in video games) then you might suffer to an extent from Thalassophobia, which is a fear of deep bodies of water. I believe that I suffer from Thalassophobia to a degree. One thing I hope this mod helps people accomplish is to Dive Deep within themselves and face their fears. (Then again, some phobias can save your life)

PLANS
Spoiler:
Show

  • Add a script which automatically converts fishing rods to weapons upon being picked up.
  • Add a Scuba Mask
  • Add an underwater location to find (may require using underwater vault modder's resource)
  • Implement this somehow
  • Treasure maps?

Without her help, letting me use the Hazmat Tanks model, we wouldn't have a cool scuba system!
