The only way to separate them would be to create new workshop stations that produce their own pool of items. I know of at least one mod that does that (sadly I can't remember the name). The problem with that is that it either requires messing with the core settlement mechanics (high chance of conflicts) or scripting (above my skill level). Adding plants to the salvage station isn't ideal, but it is simple and has minimal risk of conflicting with other mods.
If people wanted, I could make a version of this that just produced plants. Or anything else really, if they came up with an interesting idea. But you can only have one type at a time in the game.
"produces raw scrap (wood, steel, screws) with no chance of junk like toasters and teddy bears."
That's a great idea. I mean, the table is for dismantling stuff after all. What were we paying those scavengers for anyway?
I recently started a new character, so I'll try this out and see how I go - I've got very little stuff, so I'll surely notice the effects pretty easily.
I was using manufacturing extended to break down all the junk in my core settlement and traveling from settlement to settlement sending what people collected to my core settlement using salvage beacons. Even using those two convenience mods, it felt dumb and annoying. At least now there should be less micromanaging.
