Update from 2024. On NextGen2 with Valentine Reborn loaded. Just found Nick and he looked bad (Valentine Reborn not working). A comment on that mod suggested loading this one. Did so and now Nick looks like he is supposed to.
I'm confused... If we want to use Valentine Reborn, do we install that, then this, and we're done? Or after we install this, we have to go into our files and change the names of the textures? I'm confused because first you have this long step-by-step bit under "Customization", but then under "Installation" you pretty much just say to install it and go. I'm also confused because Valentine Reborn gives us a new Gen2Mouth_d file, and this mod gives us a ValentineMouth_d file. The ValentineMouth_d is the vanilla file. It's hideous. I don't want Valentine to use that file. I want him to use the file that came with the Valentine Reborn mod. So, this is where the massive confusion sets in. Is this why under "Customization" you talk about renaming files??? So Valentine will use the file from Reborn? Ugh. Help, please.
Why do you need to use the 2 together ?? I would just choose to use this, Or the other one But not both together, they both do the same or similar, but will both collide and cause a mess imho ..!
I've just chosen not use this one. I'm either waaaaay overthinking it, or it's not explained very clearly. I shouldn't have a use for it. I found the edit in FO4Edit that a mod made to Valentine and deleted it. Now Valentine Reborn works fine. He may not be "unique" completely, but I use other mods that take care of the other gen1 and gen2 synths. Why would this mod's fomod ask you if you're using Valentine Reborn if you can't/shouldn't use the two together?
Yes, if you want to use the textures from Valentine Reborn, you need to just install that mod first, then choose that option in the installer. This mod will provide you with the meshes and materials that have been edited to only affect Nick Valentine and no other synth, using the textures of VR. No further actions are needed.
But don't use Valentine Reborn option together with Custom, it would mean having a bunch of files overwritten with vanilla looking ones. Nothing gamebreaking, but it's obviously pointless.
Customization is intended for those who want a even more unique and personal Nick, it's just a framework that gives you new files that only affect Nick's looks so you can freely choose what you want from one or more mods, manually replacing the included files with the ones you want. Intended for use with other texture packs or your own, not supposed to be used with VR.
Thank you for explaining it further for me. I appreciate it. Truly. I think I understand it better now. If I find a need for this again, I will certainly give it another try. Thanks again. Have a Kudo. <3
You are most welcome. Regarding the Mouth textures, I honestly can't recall why exactly they are how they are, might have been issues in testing with the VR files due to the author using the generic Synth filestructure. Nicks mouth is kind of rarely visible in general, but if you want to test, just grab the file from VR and rename/paste it over the one from this mod. The _n and _s.dds are identical anyway.
Thank you, this helped me understand too! Now to test if the mod still works in 2024. I'm on a new playthrough and haven't found Nick yet, but may provide an update.
IWSynaptic (Exclude Nick Valentine) doesn't work with Valentine Reborn because you made the Valentine Reborn a different esp. is there any chance you can walk me through fixing that or just keep the ESP names the same to make compatibility easier?
I'm using vortex, and I just changed the name of the file to match what it wants. didn't break anything else I don't think. I'll find out eventually I guess
I just realized V. Reborn was no longer working when I saw him in my settlement tonight. I almost barfed (jk).
I've never had trouble using V. Reborn until this past week. I had installed a few random mods but nothing companion related and I also updated UFO4P since it hadn't been updated in over a year. I'm not sure which mod was preventing V. Reborn to work but your mod completely fixed the issue. Thank you so much.
Any chance you would be willing to upload the updated file somewhere? I'm having the same issue but I can't quite figure out how to manipulate the NPC record.
Valentine Reborn stopped working in the middle of gameplay and even after many install and reinstall, with nmm or manual. After reading comments in the bug section, I was directed to this mod. Valentine Reborn works again. As someone pointed out below, install Valentine Reborn first, then Truly Unique Nick. Thank you for this mod
