Well, that's one way to get adhesive, just raid a library, haha.

Just found this and it is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this with us. One small request if you decide to do a late update somewhere along the line: Can you add a scrap recipe to Bandanas? Always kind of bugged me that I could not get cloth from them. Thanks again for the great mod.

Wouldn't it be easier to have a toggle to prevent scapping on certain items

How would I implement a function like that if it's possible? Because I haven't seen any function like that on items.

(Amostly seems annoying to go through every item and toggle whether or not to scrap them as well, I think I'd rather have my set list of items not scrapable. )

I agree. It would be far better to have a player defined list of should be junk items that get converted to misc. Perhaps have the list be every possible junk item in the game commented out (either "//" or "rem " with space, depending on the file type used) in a list file. So commented out junk on the list stays as junk and ones that the player removes the comment out portion will be converted to misc.

      Example:
      //desk fan
      pre-war money
      //tin can

      --OR-
      rem desk fan
      pre-war money
      rem tin can

would result in desk fan and tin can being still junk, while pre-war money is converted to misc.

In an ideal universe I would be preserving the cash (sentimental value), any form of empty bottle (got the mod that lets me refill them with water, so they are worth more to me as bottles than as glass, and the raw materials themselves (so I can blindly toss all my junk into a recycler without wasting hours reprocessing the same 10k steel in my pocket).

Great changes! I agree with almost everything, except I think burned books and comics should be useless.

A few suggestions (from my Tweaks file):

The "charge card" is scrappable for 1 plastic, but it can be used in the game (not for anything important).

Cigarettes & cigars shouldn't be useful. (Especially lit cigarettes.) You can't get cloth or wood or asbestos from cigarettes. (Or maybe say it's fiberglass, in cigarette filters, but not cigars.)

Danse's Holotags? Scribe Faris? Knight Rylan? Knight Varham? Initiate Clarke? All BoS Holotags?

    HalluciGen Gas Canisters?

Silver Submachine Gun Prop? Silver Shroud Costume?

Fancy Hairbrush shouldn't be plastic and silver. (Maybe wood and silver? Ceramic? Plastic isn't fancy.)

I've never found the "charge card", where is that? :O

Haven't considered cigarettes or cigars yet, though (in my very sleepy head right now) I feel like I want them to still give cloth, since that's more common than fiberglass and I don't want to "break" anything by giving out a lot of fiberglass (though I can't remember what fiberglass is even used for). Will make a note of it though and look at it when I'm not quite as tired.

The named holotags are quest items and unscrappable, that's how I intend to leave them, even though I usually end up not turning them in, because I forget about it and kill Paladin Brandis instead. (You can turn them in to Brandis, Danse or Kells.)
Normal BoS holotags are scrappable, and as far as I know there's no quest to turn them in anywhere, right? If there's no quest for it then I'll probably leave them as scrappable, mostly because there are so many to be had.

HalluciGen Gas Canisters I will most likely make non-scrappable for the next release, good catch! I didn't even realize they were scrappable. The ruptured ones I'll leave as scrappable though.

Did not realize the Silver Shroud SMG Prop or Costume were scrappable. I've always given them to Kent... added to next release as well. Do you know if the Silver Shroud Photo is scrappable as well?

Shroud photo is not scrappable. (You made me look. It was hard to find. You bastard.)

IDK where you find the charge card. Someplace swampy? I always find it though. It's a unique item with a possible (unimportant) NPC interaction.

IMHO cigarettes shouldn't be useful at all, unless you smoke. But imho they should be great for trade.

If you're going to scrap holotags, what material should they yield? Bethesda had more than one idea...

Haha, I'm sorry! I was on my phone and couldn't check myself! Many thanks for looking it up for me.

According the google the charge card is from a random encounter, that explains why I never found it. Will remove the scrapping from that.

You're making a good point. They'd be great as "currency", in the same way as pre-war money. Still not 100% sure on if I want to remove all cigarettes, cigars and boxes though... I'm leaving it up in the air for a future 1.3 update. Possibly leaving boxes as is, but removing scrapping from individual cigarettes and cigars.

Holotags and Dog Tags I'll turn into aluminium (from Steel on all the ones I could find; also removed scrapping from the named holotags since those are all quest items), that's what my dog tags are made of (and from what I understand, since WW1 most dog tags have been made from in the US as well).

I could just about swear one BoS holotag was ceramic. Oh well.

Since they're HOLOtags, I might have said plastic, or maybe glass, or maybe even circuitry if you wanted to make them valuable.

(In my game I just made them all unscrappable, didn't put much thought into it. Now that I have, I guess I would go with circuitry.)

Cigar boxes could maybe yield wood and a bunch of cigars. Cigarette cartons, not so much, unless paper is a resource. (Should be and could be, and there's a mod for that, but it's not much good if nothing utilizes it.) Still, I think they ought to be more valuable in trade.

And I still think burned books and comics should be useless. I can't imagine scouring the ruins gathering burned comic books with which to rebuild civilization.

I think I'm going to go with_
Cigar box = 2 wood + 5-10 cigars (if randomness is possible, otherwise 5)
Cigarette carton = 2 cloth + 15-20 cigarettes (if randomness is possible, otherwise 15)
Not sure how much I want to raise their value though, I'm thinking cigarette at 3 and cigar at 6.

The reason I'm using the burnt books and comics for adhesive is because there are glues that are made with charcoal powder or ash (though volcanic ash), and the books kind of look like they're burnt enough to be basically charcoal or ash. (And if I'm supposed to believe that a pencil gives as much wood as a plunger, I can believe that it's possible to use the ash from the burnt books to make adhesives. )

The charge card is from Parker Quinn near the Boston South Police Department. He's a snaky cantankerous fellow that always finds a bad end.
He's just very rude and takes pleasure in browbeating you.

Isn't there like a baseball card, baseball glove and a bat that are special items too? I don't even remember.

No, sorry. I'm not using either, so I wouldn't know where to start. If you (or anyone else) wants to make a patch though you can go ahead and make one.

These are very useful mods - try and you will be impressed.
      You just add tags for items, for example Napkin to {Scrap} Napkin or {Scrap} Napkin {{{Cloth}}}
I will make this for Russian translation of your mod.

Oh, I know what they do, I just don't use them. VIS is too cluttered to me and I don't like the DEF_UI interface... so I got my own sorting mod (that I haven't released).

      Good luck with the translation!

Good mod. I've never scrapped anything because of those items. Same as you, I also don't agree with the choices of scrapable items. There are probably more I'd remove from the scapables list.

Most building materials show in my junk list. Also toys, parts for the transmitter to the institute, lots of good stuff.

Oh, the building materials show in the junk category because otherwise you couldn't use them for building anything (everything in the junk category has some kind of material listed, wood, concrete and so on). I didn't add the toys or the parts for the transmitter since there's so much of it and is so easy to find. Especially the stuff for the transmitter I left as building material, because those are pretty rare materials... at least in my experience (but I also use a lot of "less loot"-mods, so that may be why).

This makes so much sense, why were these things not scrap-able in the vanilla to begin with?

How about MacCready's little toy soldier he gives you? It's too much of a sentimental piece to be considered scrap.

That's also considered junk? Geez. I only used MacCready once before, so I didn't know.

Have fixed now, new version with that will be up soon.

Edit: It even gave Ceramic instead of Wood before. It's called "Wooden Toy Soldier"... why Ceramic? D:
