This mod is pretty much done.
All languages that have audio files are now in the main file section.

Also: If someone wants to make a console version. Go ahead. I personally don't care about permissions, not for this sort of mod, which is nothing more than file manipulation.

Special note: I don't use vortex, so I don't know if it installs it correctly, though I'd be surprised if it struggles to do so.

I will list any mods that complement Language Lover here:

    Player Comments and Head Tracking

Special Note: This mod receives regular updates--that is a good thing. I had to uninstall it due to bugs, but it works quite well with this mod. Keep it in your rear view mirror if nothing else. Hearing your character retort in another language is fun. I'll have to test this mod further in the future.

Update: I currently am testing this mod again. I run a lot of mods, but the only disadvantage that I have noticed are the interruptions, which can potentially ruin a unmarked mini side quest.

    Flirty Commonwealth

Note: Haven't tested it yet with this mod. Curious to hear what French Curie has to say. She would be the priority if I were to make a patch.

Update: So I have tested this, and French Curie will flirt with you in English, but that doesn't bother me. I actually like the fact that she mixes it up now.

I am in the process of completely overhauling this mod. It will be smaller, streamlined, and the like.

The French, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, and German Mains/DLCs are done. English=Done.

Japanese DLCs in optional files for those using "Turning Japanese" by LLX, if you prefer that mod over this one. The only difference is that his/her files for the main game are loose. Note: My optional file is of ba2 format. LInk below, and while you are at it give kudos to LLX for his inspiring mod.

    Turning Japanese

    Priorities:

    1) streamlining the DlCs----DONE. Now included in the mains. You can still find French and German mains without the DLCs in the old files.

1a) Initially, I wasn't going to do a complete Japanese version, but after successfully getting the German version to work, I changed my mind. I figure others, than myself, want an archived version rather than loose files. Go endorse LLX's mod "Turning Japanese". That mod is one of the reasons this mod even exists.

    2) make a fomod for some kind of Faction language system (anything less than a fomod would be wasteful, whimsical at best) *****I am still debating whether I will do this or not.

2a) make a fomod for a companions language system, if the factions get done. *** Addendum: I've decided to do this before factions because it is easier and it will include Portuguese and Italian, but I might have to split the fomod in two due to size. Nevermind on the Portuguese, it is localized, subtitled English that is.

3)Consoles? How much memory are console users allotted? The Japanese v1-3 is over 750 mb. I don't know if it is even worth it for a console user to give up that much space. Right now, the French v1-3 is the lowest at 660 + mb. Also, I need to make sure I get the archive compression right. Can't test the mod.

I recently got a request for an English version, so that one could play, for example, the Spanish version of the game, but with an English speaking protagonist. This addition will not be tested since Steam gives me no end of grief.

PM (please message ) me if it does not work. I have uploaded the file under optional.

Also, I have seen in the comments that peeps what to make slight alterations.
Using Archive2 and BAE (ba extractor) isn't all that difficult, so with a little research and know how, one could make small changes fairly quickly, such as removing NPC voice files, or adding them for that matter.

Following up to what is stated above. The most important thing to remember when using Archive2 is to not compress the audio files. DO NOT USE Default compression. USE none. Have fun. If you use the wrong type of compression, the audio quality will be bad.

"Final Addendum: Russian, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, and Polish are subtitled only, unfortunately. There are no audio files."
    This fuckin killed me!
My character was built around being a KGB-esque soviet badass and I got so excited when I found this mod!
    Gah... !

I'm guna endorse this anyway, awesome idea.

Nothing can be done for using audio files that the game does not possess. It could be done technically, but one would need voice actors for the entire game. As I have stated, the game only comes with Italian, English, Spanish, German, Japanese, and French audio files. Considering how many people speak Chinese, gamers or not, it is strange that the game lacks audio files for that particular language.

If I may ask, in the "Ventilabo NPC Mixup" misc mod, what languages are the assigned characters actually going to speak? I am curious :)

This is a great mod, being able to learn other languages while playing. It's immersive too, as in french-immersion (Canadian school system reference).

I could be wrong as I am not bilingual (yet), but one of the Italian lines for telling a companion to pick up a missile launcher sounds like German. Maybe this is an error by Bethesda in the Italian sound files, or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. It's a rare situation anyways, unless it's the "the big gun, get it!" line in which case all big guns can trigger that line.

A tip to actually learn a language, keep the subtitles in the foreign language, and when it pops up read it and understand it (if you cannot then search the words up in Reverso application) after you fully understood the sentence without hearing them say a word, you then listen to them pronounce what you had understood, that way binding the meaning to the sounds.
It is how I learned German at least, worked fine.

Would it be possible to translate another mod's voices? I use a mod called FCOM, when you give orders it uses voice lines from fallout 4 itself, which aren't translated. I tried messing around in xEdit but wasn't succesful.

Sadly, you would have to create a full mod, which includes audio files and an esp to override said mod. It is a pain, but it can be done if you have the patience and ability, mostly patience.

Thank you!! You know, I was planning on playing all in Italian with the exception of changing Codsworth into English; not only because he's like a very english buttler, but also since in Italian he doesn't call you by name (e.g. Miss Mia). Couldn't really figure that one out. Even so, now I'm happier changing the whole game into English especially for Nick's voice acting...yet still with a tazzina di cafè italiano here and there :D

Initially, I had bigger plans for this mod, like the adjustment you just mentioned, but trying to make a fomod was too much of a hassle. You could make a loose file version of Codsworth that would override my mod. Simply extract the English voice files from the appropriate mod with a ba2 extractor => loose files, then override my mod's esp. The main drawback is that loose files take longer to load. Loose files take precedence over ba2s, and my esp is a dummy esp, meaning its only purpose is to load the ba2.

      Cheers.

I noticed that when talking to some NPCs my Italian file choice also contained a few lines in German! lol

      Odd,
I didn't do anything special with the Italian voice files way back when; though to be honest I mostly use the German and Japanese versions. I wonder if that is a bug-bug, if you know what I mean. Tell me which NPCs in question, and I may try to reproduce the bug.

The only other thing I think it could be is that you have loose German voice files overriding the esp.

Also, I apologize. I am not as active anymore in the game mod world.

English Curie is in the Misc. files, a BA2 version with an esp or use the loose files version, whichever you prefer....or modify my mod.
      Cheers.

I'm not quite sure what is meant by "French Curie". Does it mean that Curie will speak French no matter which version I download? If I download the Japanese version, will Curie speak French instead of Japanese?

Yes, Curie will speak French with any of the main downloads. If you don't want that, download the BAE = BA extractor and delete all files, including DLC audio files named Curie or robot Curie to change her language back to whatever language interface you are using.

There are English Curie files in the Misc. files section that I had made a long time ago, of which I forgot about.

Currently, I'm using Japanese voice package with English interface. I done this by downloading Japanese interface, copying the voice package, downloading English interface back, and replacing the English voice package files.

Does this mod do something similar? Or how does this mod work? Is it better to use this mod than replacing files?
