Yeah no. Shooting a lock open is not a realistic thing. Shooting a lock with a pistol (even a .44) just gives you a flat bullet and a dented, probably unopenable lock. Shooting a lock with a rifle gives you a lock with a hole in it (or, in some cases, half a lock) (and it'll definitely be unopenable) Basically, a 12-gauge shotgun is pretty much the only thing you can realistically open a lock with (and by "open" I mean blow to pieces). Although, there are laser and plasma weapons in this game, though it'd take expert precision either way. Basically, unless you make lock breaking exclusive to shotguns and mininukes (and possibly flamers, miniguns, broadsiders, and Gatling lasers), I'm gonna go ahead and write this off as unrealistic.
Hey man no need to be rude. The author made a fine mod to bypass the stupid minigame in his/her free time for free. If it's not your cup of tea move on. And these locks are well over 200 years old, so it makes sense to me.
So, should we be worried about the usable, 200-year-old food and medical supplies, magical zombies that heal by radiation, or mutant meat-monster overlords with psychic powers as early as Fallout 1? I'd say that in a world as wacky as Fallout, shooting locks open is pretty tame.
Yeah no. Shooting a lock open is not a realistic thing.
I absolutely love comments like this!
First off, it's a game. Secondly, it's a game that has synths, supermutants, ghouls, giant mutated monsters, frequent radiation storms (that you can simply heal through using fictional meds known as Rad-X or RadAway), and the list goes on...
... And you wanna talk about realism?
Sorry, I didn't see the part in the description about realism when I was writing this.
I mean even so, people really should stop with the, "Oh woe is me, this game isn't realistic!" mentality. Games are to help us escape from reality. Want realism? Go outside, live life. That's as real as you can get lol.
Why does no-one mention that if you shoot enough bullets into the deadbolt or padlock of a regular door it WILL fail or break open eventually, especially if you pull out a minigun.
needs a saveload to sort it out i think in most cases. I think locky bastard has the same issue. come to think of it I think burn the body does too... i'm starting to see a pattern :D
at least breakable doors and splinterz work pretty consistently, but i suspect they also have script lag, it's just not as noticable due to the mods nature
Do you have the ID to summon the holotape? I don't think I got one, probably thanks to alternate start, and I can't seem to craft one anywhere. Thank you!
Ever wanted to roleplay as a brute who would rather not fiddle around with rinky-dinky bobbypins? Did you ever find a situation where you needed to unlock something only to realize that you never learned lockpicking to begin with? Or are you tired of the lockpicking mini-game in general and would rather just shoot the damn thing open?
If you answered "yes" to any of those questions then this mod is for you! Super useful and still works fine for an old mod. Thank you for this.
UPDATE: Over time the mod just stops working. Use the holotape from this mod to reset it under "Debug".
UPDATE 2: Oh and first thing you should do if you install this mod is to load up the holotape, go to [Settings], and click on "Destroyable Lock Enabled" (to disable it!). You can thank me later lol.
"This mod is designed to be as simple and light weight, yet customizable, as possible and as such doesn't do much in terms of realism and/or immersion" Except its probably the most realist and immersive lock mod on the site After 200 years breaking things open is gonna be damn near the ONLY way to get em open with all the gunk and rust but even if one assumes that someone has been going around the post apocalypse oiling and cleaning every lock and hinge for the last 200 years that isn't gonna stop metal fatigue so either way its still more realistic and immersive than anything else
I did not get it. I shot in the box with Cryolator right after the game start with 10mm pistol. After 2-3 shots the lock became inaccessible. Is it intended or something goes wrong? Unless I start looking into the sources of the mod..
Ok. I found everything in the holotape. This information must be written on the description page. How can I fix this locker (with Cryolator) now?
This is a nice mod, but no matter how low I move it in my load order I still frequently need to save/reload in order to get it to work, thus rendering the quickness it offers to annoying locks null.

I specifically say that it doesn't do anything for realism.
Its a game....
Amen my friend amen.
Can't open a cloth suitcase with a machete. That's more realistic?
I hope you have changed your hateful ways by now.

But youre an asshole.
can you leave? delete your account? thank you.

Just go into console, and type "help locks 0" and you should be able to find it.
and yes, i've yet to have a game with the holotape added
