If this mod doesn't work for you I recommend the following solution:
To be on the safe side, the first thing you may want to do is send Gage to a "safe" settlement. After ( ! ) completing the quest "Open Season", open the console and type "xx00a5b1.removefromallfactions" Then click on him and type "stopcombat player". After that simply type the following commands: xx00a5b1.addtofaction xx056ac4 1 xx00a5b1.addtofaction xx04b4d2 1 xx00a5b1.addtofaction 1ec1b9 1 xx00a5b1.addtofaction a1b85 1
That worked for me: he wasn't hostile anymore, he talked normally and I've even kept his highest affinity.
Can verify that this method will work even with no outposts established or park sections claimed for any gang, which I would personally recommend doing as it will minimize the amount of shooting that needs to be done.
The following steps need to be taken BEFORE you attack the gangs: 1. Dismiss Gage, he will return to Nuka Town outside Fizztop Grille. 2. Select Gage in the console or type [ prid xx00a5b1 ] 3. Enter [ tai ] with Gage selected. He will not turn aggro or be shot by your companion(s) if any.
Once all the raiders are killed, you need to do the following: 1. Enter the faction-related console commands as detailed in LucyAuditore's post (Gage MUST be selected in console) 2. Enable Gage's AI. 3. For safety, respawn Gage with the [ enable ] and [ resurrect ] commands.
I use this commands longer before. it works too if you don`t spoke to him in Fizztop grille. After I killed the Raiders I go to him he don`t speak with me. Use the commands and it work. You don't must send him to a safe Settlement.
I'll write up some instructions for making a bat file that will make this process a bit easier (maybe) and post it in a new post. At least that way, you'll have the bat file for your next playthroughs.
It turned out that I didn't need the mod after all, so please excuse my rudeness for sharing an alternative. Here is a way for players to create a .bat file for you to use in game, that will automatically input console commands that make Porter Gage your follower, after Open Season. (Edits made after the fact)
NOTE: - This assumes that you have all DLC, and therefore, Nuka World will be #06 in your load order. - Remember, this should be used after completing "Open Season". - (I have used this successfully without completing "An Ambitious Plan" but your mileage may vary.) - (It is possible, that even after using these codes, that Gage Porter could turn on you if he is present while you set about killing every raider in Nuka World. I do that without him around.)
1. Navigate to wherever you keep the game files (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4) 2. Right click, New, and select "Text Document" 3. Name the new text doc. something memorable like "PorterGageFix" (no spaces) 4. Paste this text into the file:
5. Save the text file and exit. 6. Start up the game 7. Use the ~ key to open the console 8. Type in " BAT PorterGageFix " (without quotes, lower/upper case irrelevant) 9. Exit the console, and Gage should be good to be your follower.
Note that upon dismissal, there may be no option to send him to a settlement (I'm not to blame, lol) and he will return to the Fizztop Grille. If you really want to assign him to a settlement, you will have to physically take him to that settlement, dismiss him, enter workshop mode, select him, hit "R" and the assign him to the settlement that way.
This comment is for those who didn't send him away. Thought he would be spared. I was running We are the Minutemen and Minutemen Takeover - Nuka World and Gage didn't survive that. Had to resurrect him and ran the bat file. Worked!!! I just disabled and enabled him after to refresh and greets me Hello Boss! Now I left him at Nuka Red Rocket doing defense duties manning posts. Big thanks!
Hi, thanks for this fix, I was afraid this mod wouldn't work anymore and here is another solution, thank you. Just a question, though, aren't the "xx" in "xx056ac4" and "xx04b4d2" supposed to be replaced with the DLC's load order number, ie "06"?
I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to share - for anyone who's trying to hold onto Gage while wiping out the raiders - I got similar error messages with the .txt file work-around. "Item not found for parameter faction. Compiled script not saved!," etc. However, when I went back to the Fizztop Grille, where I'd left Gage, he's treating me like a real follower again! Couldn't be happier! :D Also, if it matters, I also use Amazing FollowerTweaks and Gage Thoughts Fix, and neither seem to interfere with this. I also have all of the DLCs except for the hi-res texture pack.
If you want to improve this mod or perhaps give it a bit more believability in the lore, you could make a version where gage will only be loyal if you have his max affinity perk, so he is TRULY loyal. Perhaps even a version which changes his preferences if you want to go the extra couple miles. Nice mod and am gonna use it for ages. Cheers!
Yeah this mod doesnt work like at all, it says that you can complete with or with out Gage present or even has a companion, none of that is true i tested it, before doing "The Grand Tour" and after completing "An Ambitious Plan", the mod does jack shit.
I actually had quite a weird glitch in my playthrough. I did the same thing that the author did, which was installing the mod that lets you skip Home Sweet Home, and completing Power Play with the Disciples as enemies. Although, on the roof of the power plant, as soon as Nisha was killed (either by the accompanying raider bosses or me), the raider bosses all turned hostile and began shooting at me and Gage! I tried quickly grabbing Nisha's power plant key and pressing the power on button in the control room, and even then they were still hostile. I also tried reloading cause I quicksaved when I got up on the roof for the boss battle, and same problem. This is quite disappointing, as I honestly like the Operators as well as Mason. They're such cool raiders and I hate killing them but I also hate playing as the raiders and leaving the minutemen, so I at least wanted to do this ending with them before I call my minutemen squad to complete Open Season. The mods I could think of that would be affecting this are the Minutemen Takeover, this Gage mod, We are the Minutemen, and Skip HSH. Not sure if those are the exact names, but if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it.

A lot of times when something doesn't want to work for me, it us due to my load order.
EDIT:
Redid it over this morning (after a save and restart) worked like a charm.
Thank you!

Good luck. :)
I made a text file in my Fallout4 folder, I copied in the text as said, and saved.
loaded the game, type bat portergagefix in the console, Could Not Be Found or some such.
