As of version v2.0.2 of the Unofficial Fallout Patch the meshes modifications from this mod are included there, so you no longer need to download this mod if you are using that version or later of the Unofficial Fallout Patch.
No, they just happen to have very dark gills, almost same color as the shell, but if you look at them they are not just flat textures like they were before, the 3 rows are still there.
Oh, I see. Thanks for clearing this out. I guess my combo of ReShade and dark dungeon made me think that their gills are not here. Sorry for bothering you
According to the picture of Fallout Wiki, the Razorclaw has the same colour of gills as the normal Mirelurk (actually you can slightly see it from the gap), but its gills are still blocked
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mirelurk_(Fallout_76)#Gallery If you shoot the Razorclaw into pieces, you can see the colour of the gills is the same as the picture shown on this page
Glad you have not removed this mod after its addition to UF4P. Some texture packs (loading after the UF4P) can still mess up mirelurks. It is far easier for me to download this mod than editing some archives or delete by hand all the files from "loose files" mods.
The offer is still in the table, sorry for my late reply. Life has been a bit chaotic for me in this last month. You have my permission to add this content to the Unofficial Patch
I don't know if this is possible but I think it would be really cool if you made uniradiated versions of the animals like perhaps just a regular White-tail deer for the radstags and black bears for the Yaou Goaui maybe racoon as the rad roach :D.Anyways It's nice to see that someone is paying attention to detail and trying to fix the creautures.
In order to do that I'd need to change the textures of the animals, I don't know how to do that. What I did here is not a texture change but a change on the models to apply the texture correctly.
Excellent mod. You can notice it in the extreme in cases where you shoot the shells right off them. (Still remember the first time I did that, i.e. without killing it - kinda freaky actually). Although now I find myself kind of obsessing on checking out the gills on each mirelurk I kill
How does something like this go unnoticed by the dev team? Surely they're looking at their models in and out of the game before launch, you'd think they'd notice a whole portion of the model is not showing.
I hate saying disparaging things about game developers but sometimes I think some of them just don't care. It's sad but that's the way the way it seems. It's like Bethesda just said, ok that's good enough, let's ship it. Missing gills aren't a showstopper; they don't crash the game and make it unplayable and I guess the artist who textured the Mirelurks just didn't care enough to make it an issue with the team.
This kind of reminds me of City of Heroes... it always bugged the HELL out of me that when I walked across the top of shrubbery in CoH, it sounded like I was walking on concrete. I first submitted a bug report on that in the early days of beta. After it went live I resubmitted that bug. And again every few months. (no joke). When City of Villains came out, the shrubbery in the CoV areas had the right footstep sounds so I naturally (stupidly) assumed that they would shortly carry the fix over to CoH. Nope. Until City of Heroes shut down, those shrubs sounded like concrete when walked upon. And the developers just never gave enough of a s#*! to fix it and you know it would have been a simple fix too.
The thing is that the main body of the mirelurk is properly textured with gills and everything. However, the addons that are used for when the mirelurk is mutilated are the ones who are not properly set (like when you destroy the shield). In fact, the models used for the load screens showing mirelurks are correct, because they don't have the extra parts blocking the main body.
This is even more apparent in the case of the Bloodrage Mirelurk, where the main body uses the right textures in the right places. But the pieces used for when the mirelurk is mutilated are wrong, and to add a cherry on top they use the base mirelurk textures, making it looks even worse, meaning they used the base mirelurk model and simply replaced the main body with the new one but didn't change the other pieces.
Unlike what the overzealous opinions of some angry, bias people might lead you to believe, developing video games is a long, difficult, overwhelming, complex, tedious, and repetitive process, and developers are often taking on much, much, much more work then they should be, and are worked so hard it becomes easy to miss simple, tiny bugs like this.
So no, it is most certainly NOT a case of the developers "not caring", it could not be more far from the truth. They are already putting more of their life and time into the creation of the game then they should considering how horribly people treat them for their contribution, especially when many game developers end up having serious medical and mental issues from the extreme amounts of sleep deprivation and stress their job causes them. But no, the prevailing "cool kid" response is to call them LAZY.
It's simply a case of there being literally millions and millions and millions of tiny meaningless little things that can go wrong like this. The only logical solutions to fix this would have been to hold FO4 back for like, 3~4 more YEARS while they fixed tiny meaningless bugs like this, or just not make the game AT ALL because self righteous brats will complain about a single missing texture that would have taken minutes to fix making them lazy while ignoring the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of man hours of hard work and pain and love poored into a game of this scale.
Yes, 1 minute of not doing something totally invalidates 100,000 hours of work, making everyone involved lazy! Internet logic!
Not to say this mod isn't worth it or anything, in fact, modders fixing small things like this the developers can easily miss is an important part of our community. Acting like the developers are shitty and don't give a s#*! because they missed one out of seven hundred and eighty five billion check boxes before releasing the game to you is purely destructive to our community however.
To give your question a short and sweet answer; The amount of time it would take to track down tiny bugs like this is 1,000 times what it would take to fix them.
@ArtMurder: Bethesda has been in the business of developing/publishing video games for AT LEAST 15 years, if not more. I'm sorry but I have to agree with Starwaster here. Fallout 4 is running on a game engine with code that dates all the way back to TESIII: Morrowind, which came out 14 years ago (2003). There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for games like Fallout 4 to have so many glaring bugs/glitches period. Heck, developers/publishers flat out refuse to utilize even half the features included with modern day CPUs/GPUs. Fallout 4 only utilizes 2 cores of one's CPU, which effectively creates a huge artificial bottleneck memory/performance-wise in games like Fallout 4. Shadows are still bound to the CPU knowing full & well the GPU would be better suited to render shadows, hence why shadows are such performance-killers in Bethesda games even to this day. Habitually porting games over from console to PC sure doesn't help things either. There is really no excuse for Bethesda to release such buggy/glitchy games at all, which effectively makes their loyal customer base Bethesda's beta testers of their games quite literally. Companies like Intel & Nvidia have finally started to push companies like Bethesda to start utilizing all the new features in modern day CPUs/GPUs & stop with all the artificial bottlenecks like only allowing games like Fallout 4 access to 2 cores of one's CPU when we have 4, 8, & even 10 core CPUs nowadays. Many motherboards now have 4 PCIe slots, which allow for 4-way SLI set-ups, yet another modern technical marvel Bethesda has so far utterly refused to add support for in their games. It's beyond ridiculous & well past time for Gamebryo to be retired to the scrap heap. Same goes for Papyrus, the slower than molasses scripting engine Fallout 4 runs on, a la Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, Oblivion, & Morrowind. Many of the bugs in games like Fallout 4 end up having to be fixed by Arthmoor & co (Unofficial Patch Project Team) whom work tirelessly to fix many of the bugs Bethesda either forgets to fix or just plain flat out refuses to fix due to pure laziness.
What game are you even playing? This is a minor, minor issue, that has never effected anyone's game negatively. I have over one thousand hours in Fallout 4, and never once encountered a bug or issue I couldn't easily ignore. I seriously think people posting this just don't even play this game, and just post this on these forums for giggles.
The games Bethesda makes are absolutely amazing, if you can't appreciate that, why the f*#@ are you here? I respect and appreciate the work the developers at Bethesda do, if you don't, you shouldn't be playing their games. NO, they aren't perfect. No games are. If you can't respect and appreciate something for what it is, you are only hurting yourself. The least you can do is keep such a rude unhelpful opinion to yourself.
Fallout 4 is exactly what it advertises itself as, it works amazingly and delivers hundreds and hundreds of hours of content. it has had one of the most successful launch years in gaming history, easily the biggest Bethesda has ever had. If you personally are not happy with FO4, you are in the vast, vast minority.
Every game of this scale will always have bugs like this. If you feel this entitled to have a perfect flawless game, you should probably just stop playing games, because every other large open world game, farcry, GTA, skyrim, witcher, watchdogs, assassin's creed.. ANY of them are LOADED with small bugs and glitches. It's the development trade off for making a large game. Seriously, type the name of any large open world game into youtube with "glitches" ... it always happens. No exceptions. Developers are not omnipotent. It's not like they CHOOSE to leave in bugs. Finding them is the problem.
You will NEVER get a game of this scale with NO TINY BUGS!! It would take literally 20 years to develop and test!!! Why are people so insistent on defending themselves being assholes to people who bring tens of millions of people literally billions of hours of happiness and joy.
EDIT: To the author: I'm done arguing this issue, I won't keep spamming your thread, I apologize.
No matter how good Bethesda's games are, they have glaring issues that they refuse to fix. Bugs far more serious than missing gills on Mirelurks.
Bugs where the game freezes up so solidly in VATS that you have to log out of your Windows account or reboot your PC because you can't even get to Task manager.
Bugs where your elevator buttons have moved up one or more floors preventing you from using your elevator so you have to remove it or delete it but then when you try to replace it, it won't snap to the floors anymore. That last one they've known about since the Contraptions DLC came out. Someone in the modding community released a mod to fix it, so the cause is now known so Bethesda could easily fix it in the core game now that they know where and what the problem is but have gone silent on the issue and still no fix for it.
Those are just a few examples. There are many many more in the unofficial FO4 patch of things both minor and serious that Bethesda just. won't. fix. Probably not ever.

FIXED IT!
Also fixes the bad bone weights on its claws.

Glad the mod is still of use for people around :)
I'm not sure how you attempted to contact us, but we're definitely still alive
If this offer is still on the table we'd greatly appreciate it.
