If you still have the black face after installing this mod or have had it before the High Res DLC try the following in order:

    1) Disable SLI/Crossfire if you are using it (Bethesda games never played nice with SLI/Crossfire and has known to cause the bug)

    2) Verify integrity of your game cache.

    3) Update graphics drivers.

    4) Make sure the High Res DLC ESM is at the top of your load order but below all the other official DLCs.

    5) Reinstall this mod and overwrite all textures.

    6) Monitor your VRAM with a program like Riva Tuner and make sure you aren't capping out on your RAM and VRAM. If you are capping out then the high res DLC isn't for you :(

    7) If you are still experiencing the issue, the you should remove the High Res DLC in its entirety by deleting the files from the Data folder.

    8) Check the mod incompatibilities section in the mod description.

LASTLY, if none of these help then I am afraid nothing can be done as it is an engine issue and nobody has found a real fix for the black/brown face issue when unrelated to the High Res DLC.

Ah, just read the LASTLY note. I never had the High Res on my character, and don't have any body/face custom mods. Yet, some of my settlers have this problem. Why, Bethesda, why?

Well - I removed the High Res DLC, and things in every category turned purple. NPC's bodies are splotchy with patchwork discoloration, companions faces are "black". This was last night - today game just CTD's at startup when trying to load a save. I can't seem to locate a download place at Steam - Just says my stuff's installed, so how do I get the game re-downloaded? Cuz I sure as hell can't play the current one any more

Well... I found a funny issue. I'm not using that HiRes pack so there were no reason for this glitch. Then I decided to download to see what happens to the darkened head settlers I have. Didn't expect even this mod would install in a right way, actually... but the fact is that went through smoothly, and only asked about overwriting some files from Valkir's female face and body replacer https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3841. Now the glitch is gone. Hmmm... just wonder if this has something to do with the patching Valkir made for that HiRes Pack..

I had the High Res DLC pack for about 20 minutes. It was not that impressive. There are other 2K texture packs for settlers, raiders and non-named NPCs out there that are far better. That is not the problem. The problem comes from Valkyre face textures. Let me explain.

A lot has happened since 2016. HD is no longer textures of 1024 x 1024 but with 4K is now 4096 x 4096. A lot of companion mods require the Valkyre face textures and they do look great... on a $200 monitor. The moment you move to 4K and a 3840x2160 screen resolution, the realistic textures of Valkyre's HD version (1024x1024 - the Bethesda default) lose that look of realism and you get a cartoon rendering like Shrek. Even on non-4K monitors that have a 1920x1080 resolution the Valkyre HD textures start to look unacceptably soft. The problem is that if you combine anything greater than 1024 x 1024 with Valkyre you get the dark face bug.

I don't use the High Rez DLC but I do use Valkyr Fair Skin for non high res and still get the brown face bug. Rusty Face Fix didn't work. I've used Valkyr before in several playthroughs and this is the first time this has happened. This seems to have gotten rid of the problem.

Alright I have uploaded a new version (1.4) that should fix most people's black faces.

Please do not use older versions and if you are, update to the newest version.

Yes the older versions do not offer any benefit over the newest version (in fact it offers less) so I have removed them. Also, you are welcome.

Excellent work, couldn't work out what was causing the glitch until I realised I'd installed the high rez pack recently

please stop being trolls, as the mod doesn't work for everyone.
Commenting positively just to cover  the problem is really unfair.

Also all the black face fix mods are broken.
Honestly, you are ridiculous for praising it, since if it is not updated it is clear that it cannot work, because it is clearly connected to something that was updated with the latest update.
However, I would like to point out that the problem is present only and exclusively on Tina de Luca's face.
I will contact the unofficial for further information, it may be that it depended more on the unofficial than on this mod.

Well in my case this mod helped so I dare to say still working despite how old is it.
Or at least it helped  me to "fix" a Hancock replacer  (Sexy Hancock) to work bc without this mod his face texture just not work at all. Probably (hopefully) get an update the mod it self but until then I'm  happy to found this solution.

try to make it clear that the mod is useful even if not updated...
I find it more or less incorrect and causes information asymmetry.
I have no doubt that the mod "was" very useful. But there's a reason why the mod was "the only one" that helped you, as per community policies only one user has "the blackface fix."
So don't let on that the rest of the community didn't care about the problem, they simply can't deal with it.

There is nothing to update in this mod. They have not changed the way textures get loaded into the engine, there is nothing to "update". All this mod is is vanilla resolution face part textures. If you use face textures that do not match with the resolution of the face parts (e.g. high res dlc), this bug can occur. There are other ways this bug can occur too, it would do you good to read the stickied comment. This mod only aims to fix this specific scenario.

Please stop spouting incorrect information for a topic you know nothing about.

I don't know how useful this mod is for others, but it at least helped me to get rid of an unpleasant seam on my neck, where one part is one color and the rest of the body is another color. I actually downloaded this mod for this reason, not to fix the skin color.

its just a texture dump to fix the issue it doesnt need updating and its the kind of mod that just might not work for everyone

definitely this very sophisticated mod might not work for everyone,
strangely before the update it worked for everyone, now it works for no one...
except for those who fiercely defend the author and haven't launched Fallout 4 in the last 4 years.
