    If you are seeing untranslated strings in MCM prefixed with dollar signs e.g. $MCM_Config, you need to enable loose file loading so that MCM can load its translation files.

    Follow the steps listed on this page, under the "How To Enable Fallout 4 Mods > How to enable modding" section.

    VORTEX user, make sure you can launch the f4se_loader.exe from the game installation folder beforehand! If the game is not open, Mod Config won't appear on the menu list. Yes, other mods can still work well simply by running directly from Vortex. But, MCM mod does not count

    # Your best bet is to manually install F4SE and MCM to make it work (only copy-paste file, not difficult to do)
    # A conflicted/corrupted plugin will also prevent the Mod Config from appearing, so go to your game's installation folder.
       Then go to Data > F4SE > Plugins and delete everything inside. Next, launch the game through the f4se_loader.exe in-game               installation folder OR Vortex f4se, the MCM mod will be detected
    # If launching from Vortex Fallout 4 Script Extender (f4se), make sure to set it as Primary

    MOD Config is only available in-game via the Pause menu (Esc)
    If it's still not working, then I don't know what else can make the MCM mod work with Vortex

    To remove the $MCM_Config error with MO2 add the lines :

    [Archive]
    bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
    sResourceDataDirsFinal=

    in Tools>Tool Plugins>INI Editor>fallout4custom.ini

    it solved the problem for me.

    (solved) hey im having some trouble getting mcm to work. I've tried installing it mnaully and I'm opening f4se but version 1.39 doesn't show up. i tried downloading 1.4 and the tab for mcm shows up with that version but the game freezes and then crashes if I click on it. any help is appreciated.

    edit: just had to wait out the black screen

    I can't seem to make this mod working. I have tried the 1.39 version and the Beta Version. I have F4SE installed manually and run the game through it, the exe one. Also tried through vortex directly. I do also have like 300 other mods installed. But Vortex doesn't display any conflicted mods, wouldn't know if any otherwise. Anyone know any mods that make MCM not work, etc? Really want this mod so i can configure other mods

      i wonder how this thing works aswell, its been a week eversince i'd tried modding my fallout but this thing doesnt get to work idk wtf im doing wrong ive installed f4se since its a must have for modding like cant run shitt without it and then idk how to fix it cuz idk whats broken not sure if its about new gen or sum s#*! but yeah idk how to use this
      (FOOKIN HELL MATE IVE DONE IT WRONG, new gen gotta use the 1.40 beta wtf and ive been here for weeks figuring out how to use mods smh smh im dumb)

      MAAAAN! Your post was SO helpful! I wouldn't have even checked the optional files if it wasn't for you.
      So, to everyone: I have downloaded and installed the beta 1.40 from the optional files through Vortex and it works just fine.

    BETA 2 currently working better the estable version, estable wont appear in my game only beta 2 appears

    ever since this stupid fucking random ass update came out ive never been able to get my mcm working even if i follow advive from the creator

      managed to get it working,
      downloaded and installed "Mod Configuration Menu 1.40 BETA 2" from the updates tab,
      via vortex, the notification thing told me 1.39 was redundant, and to disable it.

      then used LOOT to make sure the load order was correct,
      booted up the game using the f4se loader, loaded a game that i been using for mod tests and it the mcm shows up at the top of the options.

      hope that helps :)
