Am revamping this mod to make it much, much, better including the ability for Gretchen to be a full fledged wasteland dog vendor, offering a variety of dogs, each with its own strengths.

Additionally, Puppies once grown will either be able to be sold or be used as guard dogs.

DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING A DATE NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PERSONAL SELF?  WELL A REVOLUTIONARY BREAKTHROUGH HAS EVOLVED. WE PROUDLY INTRODUCE TO YOU " RENT A PUPPY".  THAT RIGHT.  NEVER HEAR GOOD GOD NO ANYMORE.  :-)=

Is it just me or you DID pull a joke reference to Hansel and Gretel?

It is a great idea with puppies, but they don't look like puppies, more like smaller version of grown up dogs. When they walk around, they are small, and when they go to their bed or dog house, they just grow up. They just shrink, when they get out of their bed or house. Wish they really looked like puppies, but they don't.

Okay, this goes out to everyone who is having issues encountering Gene. I found a little loophole to solve this issue so you can use the full effects of this mod! Since you cannot buy a junkyard dog outside of from Gene and or the Mutant in far Harbor, there is another way to avoid trying to trigger the Gene random encounter.
This will only work for those who have the Contraptions DLC. What you do is build about 4 small dog traps and wired those up. It may take two rounds like it did me, but eventually I was able to trap a Junkyard Dog and now I can have the puppies mod working!

This will save you a lot of time of trying to run into Gene to buy a dog off of him!

Endorsing this amazing mod! Great Work!
    Enjoy!

Very Nice! I only did 3 traps and it took two rounds but I got one after that! It is the quicker way to get a Junkyard dog; rather than trying to encounter Gene!

Too many puppies, with guns in their hands.
Too many puppies, in foreign lands.

AWESOME! I'm drunk, and the mod test character I created after a recent hard drive format is only level 1 and hasn't been anywhere so it may be a few days before I can properly test this mod. But it's a fabulous idea and I can't wait to have puppies. I met Gene only once in all my play-throughs and buying a dog from him was bugged at the time. So I look forward to checking this out.

Don't currently have a way to buy dogs from Gretchen's FYI, but that will hopefully be a future update.

Yeah, I was going to say that would have been a better idea or even be able to buy a junkyard dog itself from his wife to initiate the whole having puppies because the chances of Gene randomly appearing is about a .5% chance and that is providing a person does not have a mod that may interfere with the random encounter of Gene in the first place.
This is my 5th play through and I only encountered Gene in my very first game!

I mean this mod concept is an amazing idea, but without Gene and his random encounter this mod is merely more of just a puppy show for now. Also the directions is off a bit as you said it is Northwest of Sanctuary. The Robotics Disposal Ground is actually Northeast of Sanctuary! It is Northwest of USAF Satellite Olivia.

Well, hopefully I will be able to use this mod once I have the pleasure of randomly encountering Gene again. Thanks for sharing either way!

Well if you know anyone who can script actors with conversation dialog lemme know, I can make all the source .wav files needed to talk to Gretchen and buy a dog from her, but as of yet lack the knowledge to put together a coherent diagonal branch. As you are correct that Gretchen should ideally be a secondary and guaranteed way to buy a junkyard dog.

Also if I was clever I would see if cant get perms from authors with different dog breed mods for Dogmeat and make it to where you could buy your choice of dog breed, each with its own strengths.

Also dully noted, on the northeast, had a bit too much eggnog when I was looking at the map earlier

Love the idea and will download later today when I am home. One option would be to take Gene and just have him stay at the farm instead of being a random encounter wandering around. Other options would be to make a copy of Gene who is always there... You could just say when you run into him in the random encounter that you just happen to come across him on one of his trips

or even better make Gene a travailing merchant with a set route.. one that has days he is at home.

Of course I am great at tossing out ideas that I have no idea how to implement. So take them for what they are worth. :p Thanks for this mod though. Everyone loves puppies!

I wish I knew how to do that for you, but sadly I am knew to modding myself and learning. My brother use to make mods for Fallout 3 and New Vegas but not sure if he still does or not. I will send him a message either way to see. Who knows, maybe he can help. The different dog breeds sounds cool too actually! Like I said, this mod is amazing and a unique idea. I love concept of it. I just wish Gene was a stay put kind of guy! Lool I still installed it and hopefully I will meet that bastard Gene once again!

I also like what doright said below about having Gene stay at the junkyard or even have him follow a specific route rather than a random encounter.

I hear you on the eggnog! Lol.

Any chance of looking at the Super Mutant that sells dogs and wolves in Far Harbor and seeing how he does it? I always thought that if he could do it someone would copy that for the Commonwealth and have a dog vendor there.

The idea with Gretchen being Genes wife is outstanding. Having her tend to the puppies while Gene peddles them would be a wonderful addition to FO4. I hope you can figure it out because you have the making of a must have mod here.

Thanks for posting this and good luck!

Thanks for the input, not yet played Far Harbor as I'm wanted some decent content left to play once my other mods are done that "fix" FO4 being a fantasy game with freaking magical weapons and not a Sci-Fi game with Mad-Science weapons, so I was not aware of such a mutant!

someone needs to make puppy models for the earliest stages, so they can transition a lill better :b the toy-sized normal dogs aren't the best depiction of a puppy xD

If you ever played Fallout 1 or Fallout 2, the Brahmin actually had one head with bull horns and one without, and all of them had utters. Seems to imply come type of hermaphroditic biology.
