Hello all. Just a few extra bits of information, exclusive for those of you who read comments first.
GUNS FOR HIRE:
Armstrong & Duke are hirelings. You can run alongside any other companions without issue, as they are completely standalone.
They will act like any other companion, but for a small cost of caps. When first hired, you will receive a contract that will allow you to summon them should they somehow get lost. If dismissed they will return to their camper. I currently have no intention to allow you to send them to settlements, as doing so would kinda defeat their purpose as hirelings. However, I may add this feature when I finish making the quest.
Note: They will charge you everytime you enlist or summon them
ABOUT DUKE
Duke has a small conversational quest that will eventually lead to him liking you. This will unlock a custom perk. However, It will take you some time for this to happen, as he is very wary of strangers.
You'll know that the quest has started when the message "Duke is watching you" appears.
Bugs/feedback
It's impossible for me to test this independently from beyond my own data folder, so please let me know of any bugs you may encounter in the bugs section.
This mod is amazing, really well done and I like the flair of Armstrong and Duke, I do however.. have a complaint.
This mod is throwing a lot of errors and causing crashes according to a papyrus log, even when Armstrong and Duke aren't followers, related to their sandboxing and teleporting, which is very frequent, the mod is also bleeding scripts in the background when they're not hired which sometimes leads to a crash, maybe this is a conflict with my mod list or something odd with my save, but my mod list isn't heavy with companion mods. So I don't get it why this is happening.
I will create a new char and see if things will be better.
Hey there! Is it intended that those two guys don't draw their weapons, when I do? That is somehow a bit immersion breaking. Otherwise they made a pretty good first impression on me :)
Just dropping in to see how things are. Can't wait for the story to continue, these two lads are some great characters to have hanging around in the Commonwealth. :D
How goes the quest? Love these two guys, I've had them in my game for so long that I sometimes forget they're not vanilla (same with Tales from the Commonwealth).
Waiting for 3 years, I can speak for everyone and say we can wait another 10 years. In fact, I've been sitting here in this same spot waiting the entire time! It's fantastic.
This is a great hireling mod! The voice acting is superb, but the dialogue lines do become repetitive after many hours of game-play (however, the same can be said for the vanilla companions as well). I hire them as caravan guards for my trader character.
Hiring them for 100 caps seems kind of light for how useful they are, but I tend to like things a bit more challenging in my game.
I really hope that you continue work on the quest-line as it seems like it will be really awesome.
I really love this pair. They're interesting and have some fun lines. I think I did the conversational quest with Duke and he likes me. However, I think I messed up a conversation with Armstrong due to another companion wanting to have a affinity conversation with me at the same time. Now, all I can say to Armstrong is, 'Can I ask you something?' and the conversation just ends. Any thoughts on what it may be?
