Hmmm, I'm conflicted about this... Modern gun bullets passing by make a crack sound cos they're going at faster-than-sound speeds, but if you're using older guns it'll make a whizz-type sound.
In a game where guns are literally made in a dirty shed in a post apocalyptic world without the actual finesse of precise modern machine-making and actual good-conditioned modern guns are rare, not sure if I should use this.
by old guns, how old are you talking? for as long as rifles have used rifled bore and cartridges became full power (talking rifle cartridges going into the 20th century), bullets have always made this sound.
Now THAT is how it really sounds when a bullet goes by you. It cracks, not whizzes. lol. I've had a few ricochets and one accidental fire at a range go right past my head. It cracks really loud and makes your ears ring as if YOU were the one BEHIND the gun. It's really insane, but makes sense with a basic understanding of physics. Really well done mod. This mod is, in fact, extremely important to me.
If you want to go the extra mile, apply the sounds only to bullets that travel faster than the speed of sound - there's actually an unused sound entry called ProjectileBulletBySupersonic (or something like that) in the GECK that has entries for nonexistent sound files - just change the names to those and it'll use them. You'll have to switch the sound entry for the projectiles though.
I modded my game so that bullets aren't hitscan and now have actual flight time and drop - long distance sniping actually requires leading the target now if they're moving, and I gotta compensate for gravity as well. It also kind of highlights how useful laser weapons are in this regard in that you don't have to lead your shots, but a hugeass red laser streaking across the map isn't exactly what you'd call stealth. Also modded all projectiles so that subsonic rounds don't have the crack, whereas supersonic rounds do.
I'd like to but it uses Insurgency's bullet crack sounds - reuploading it as a mod without permission would result in a ban, although I suppose I could just provide a modified .esp sans the actual sounds themselves, then you could use this mod's sounds and just rename them as necessary.
Not to mention that this is but one mod assimilated into a merged patch that consists of at least 50 other mods in order to keep my load order down. Since it also probably definitely contains mods that aren't allowed to be redistributed without permission I'd have to remove those records in FO4Edit, something which I frankly can't be bothered to do because I really want to actually play the game now lmao
I dont use the GECK, I extracted the audio from the game and converted my own sounds into it. I'd go the extra mile but I really cannot be arsed to use the GECK I did however try looking up what you mentioned but all I see are 2 folders named ''Whiz'' and ''By''. Couldnt find anything specific for supersonic rounds. If you can provide me with the names &path I could implement supersonic rounds aswell

Well, in-game it doesn't make a difference, but in real life the laser would most likely operate on a wavelength not optimized for human eyes, but one optimized for lasers - meaning you might not see it at all unless in atmospheric conditions that allow it. Only way someone would see it is with NVGs or FLIR then.
Realistic laser weapons in FO would actually be even more terrifying. Even not being hit directly but merely seeing the emission of the laser or having it reflect off something would lead to instant permanent blindness unless everyone was running around with serious eye protection (even handheld lasers you can buy now that can light matches and whatnot are SUPER dangerous to use without eye protection, and can blind you instantly in some cases). And real lasers produce ridiculous amounts of waste heat which would make long term engagements very nerve wracking. Also, the whole "flesh boiling and vaporizing" thing upon getting shot...
As long as the bullet is flying faster than the speed of sound - 340 m/s or approx 1115 ft/s - then yes, bullets will make a supersonic crack as they fly past your head. Bullets going slower than that won't make a crack but you can still hear them fly by.
For me though I'd be more concerned about taking cover

Would be cool if you had a before and after mod sounds in the video!
