I have a question. Will a navy version ever happen? Just curious. Also if it does happen will it be available on Xbox?

    Very nicely done.

However from a lore, immersion standpoint I'd argue this isn't very fitting. From my understanding the BoS built these craft themselves not remains of the actual US Military. So with that in mind it makes no logical sense why they would have a pre-war paint job be more likely to have the BoS color scheme.

But that aside it does look very nice, keep up the excellent work!

Thanks. I was considering this too before I made the mod. However, if the intro sequence is anything to go by, the Vertibirds may in fact be pre-war. The docking arms are there in both instances, and they all have the same paint scheme pre- and post war.
There's no doubt the BoS can manufacture new Vertibirds with new coats of paint, but it's also entirely possible that many of them are salvaged pre-war airframes fixed up to working condition. Sort of like in real life the USAF is still flying half a century old B52's with totally overhauled systems.
That still doesn't explain why they'd leave the Army paint job on though... I dunno, maybe they thought it looked too cool to replace lol.

      Vertibirds definitely existed pre-war: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vertibird

Thank God we can make up our own lore in our minds when we play a modded Fallout playthrough.
Alternately. You can just say that this is a Vertibird for the Minutemen Air Force.

Wish I had discovered this earlier - the Vertibirds just look so much cooler and the 1940s style artwork is in keeping with the theme of FO4.

Your right, they did totally drop the ball with the vertibird textures. The major problem is the fact that they dont even include a spec map - so the whole thing just looks smooth and glossy.

Good point, I never thought of that myself. They also made the Vertibird's texture resolution automatically degrade as soon as it takes off, so it looks awful in-flight. I wish I knew how to fix that.

reminds me of the "no dragon LOD" mod for skyrim. could be a similar fix, not sure though.

During the war of 1939-1945 German pilots drew yellow stripes on the planes of young and inexperienced pilots in order to be able to protect them during the battle. (historical reference)
    Textures beautiful thanks !!!

Many thanks for this beautiful texture

    >Lore-wise it isn't a problem, but I'd definitely prefer to make some faction-specific skins if I knew how to make it work.

If you want, view my mod so you can see how to make it. My Private Vertibird has now his own textures and your works best with it.

Nice work, looks like a very handy mod. If I ever get back to this to make faction skins, I'll certainly take a look at your mod as a reference.

I'm actually working on a mod like this!

PowerArmour, I was wondering if I could use a modified (more rusted, less unique) version of this skin for pre-war crashed Vertibirds.

and Xgf, thank you for the helpful example of reskinning! I was having no luck with material swaps.

I would of course link to both of your mods for the texture and the help.

By all means! The idea sounds great and if these textures will help realize it, you're free to use them.

Could you make a version that only had the green paint and army logos? I don't really like the artwork on it and plus it doesn't feel like a factory default considering all the other vertibirds have the same art on it.

Any chance you could do a version that only effects the pre-war vertibird and the wrecks? I'd really like to use this in conjunction with the BoS vertibird mod, so as to have the Brotherhood repainting their aircraft.

Looks amazing, definitely a great job! One thing just for accuracy's sake though, you got your military branches mixed up... The insignia which you put on the side of the bird is a US Air Force insignia, *not* a US Army insignia...

I know, but it's still accurate. There were plenty of non-Air Force aircraft with the roundel on them, as shown in these images:

Not sure why they did that though.

That's actually not a USAF symbol. It's simply a US military symbol. All aircraft of the United States Armed Forces bear that symbol. Roundels are simply identifiers on military aircraft and not any specific branch. Every aircraft of the Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard bear that roundel. Roundels have been used to identify the national origin of military aircraft since WWI and are rarely ever used to identify an aircraft from a specific branch of a nation's military. The Air Force's actual symbol looks more like a star pendant with a ribbon that kind of looks like wings.

Recommand using this mod with "Whirly", so you can check out the beautiful texture anytime you want.
