There are two advantages, as I see them. 1. Ease of obtaining materials. Its easier to get purified water than dirty water, at least if you have a settlement set up. 2. Lets you cook some farm produce you couldn't before, and eat them without getting irradiated.
Edit: also, I don't see much point making the normal food irradiate you, as its so easy to purify dirty water. But if enough people want it I could add it as an option.
Thanks, I'm glad someone made something like this. There was a mod someone made like this a long time ago but it's defunct and hasn't beenupdated for survival, AFAIK.
