simple but sweet, good mod! I highly suggest if you want to do a martial arts build with this mod, that you also download the "invisible knuckles" mod. There are two versions, one is OP (i think like 300 damage without any perks lol) but there is also a version that does vanilla fist damage. It's useful to have the fists in weapon form so you can switch to unarmed with a hotkey (Unless you are planning on never using guns).
Edit: Also OP misspelled "martial" as marital when naming the perk in the pipboy screen, and that gave me a good chuckle. I'm thinking a marital artist is someone who is either a really good spouse, or someone who has been married so many times they have perfected the "art" lol

Do you have Unarmed weapons equipped? (Such as: Boxing glove, Knuckles, Deathclaw gauntlet, etc. all will not work)
If you use xEDIT to see the only working weapon, It's your fist: 000C2C27 <UnarmedHuman>
Maybe you used another mod to make your unarmed attack, not your fist <UnarmedHuman>, you may have to check the mod you are using.

I think I found another possible situation, maybe a mod conflict.
I recently started playing "FROST Survival Simulator" https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/18898 And while playing, I found that no matter how many enemies I killed, it would not level up.
I try to enter the command in the console: "show aaaMartialArtistGrowCount" ( typing without " ) The returned value is 0, which means no kills.
After I checked with xEDIT, I enter the command: "show aaaMartialArtistStarted" ( typing without ") Found that the return value is also 0, I think that even if I took the PERK magazine, it was still not activated.
Then I entered: "set aaaMartialArtistStarted to 1" ( typing without " )
Then try to kill the enemy, after that it does level up, Enter the command again : "show aaaMartialArtistGrowCount" ( typing without " ) The return value does increase with the number of enemies killed.
So my conclusion is:
1: Take the PERK magazine first, then enter the command "show aaaMartialArtistStarted" ( typing without ") If the return value is 0, it means it is not activated.
2: If the return value is 0, enter the command "set aaaMartialArtistStarted to 1" ( typing without " )
This should start normally. Hope it can help other players who have the same problem :)

It collects PERK magazines, which I simply took from the "Lootman" inventory, This action did not properly enable the execution of "Martial Artist".
If you use "Lootman" to collect magazines, The PERK magazine must be thrown from the inventory and picked up again, This will start correctly.
Does this mod work ? I've punched to death a lot of mobs and the perk is not leveling up. is there something wrong with the mod? So I did some testing and found that if you use a mod that hotkeys melee those wont count for kills. You have to equip a weapon and then click on it again to unequip it so that you can use the default melee "weapon" aka your fists in game. I kept using the show aaaMartialArtistGrowCount console command to keep track of kills and found that the non-hotkeyed melee worked while the modded hotkeyed melee did not count. So if you're trying to build up kills do not use a hotkey for melee, just use the vanilla way of getting melee to get your kill count up.
If you are still looking after this mod, could I suggest an update or patch for use with the Knockout Framework because the only way it counts now is if you kill your opponent.

I research Unarmed dismemberment chance. result is disable dismemberment.
Because. It exist 'UnarmedHuman' in weapon data. this weapon 'On Hit' record is 'No dismember/explode' with Vanilla. this record change 'Normal formula behaviour', Dismemberment work with unarmed attack.
I create optional file. above change include. if you'd like use!
I am loving this mod, good fun. I am using X4 (don't want to cheat too much) and must have got a lucky kick in, poor guy went clear across the river by Sanctuary. Good work here and Thank You for this mod. Endorsed!
