This is a copy and pasted message ive sent to several people who have asked for help patching armors. I wrote it quickly on my phone while at work, but maybe its helpful to someone! I will sort things out here and make things clearer when i have the time, but for now i dont see any reason not to share it.

First off, compare a horizon item and a vanilla item. You can learn a lot!!!

    Foedit tip:
Holding shift or control you can select multiple items of the same category. Once you have your items highlighted, right click. Choose compare selected items. You can now drop and drag changes from the horizon item to the item you want to patch!
I didnt know this at first and its important!!

    Armor slots:
Delete any underarmor slots or armor slots used. (U-Torso, U-L leg. A-Torso, A-L leg) Youll want to leave Lhand and Rhand, this is for outfits that use gloves.

    Addon folder:
Just make sure to look in the armor addon folder, some armors refer to this and you need to delete any reference underarmors or armors there as well so its just Body-33. (So delete U-Larm...A-Larm ect....)
If the armor has gloves its ok to keep Lhand and Rhand.

    Enchantment:
Usually delete this. Unless its adding some unique effect to the armor...(like the chinese stealth suit).
I believe they are disabled but i delete them just in case. Eyeglasses still get a perception bonus. Refer to one of horizons eyewear items and use that one instead because i believe it is different!

    Resistances:
Since Horizon sort of makes all armors equal, i try not to go overboard with adding resistances. I sort of use the weight of an armor as a guide...so if it weighs more, it gives more defense. That way taking a lighter armor gets a bit of a trade off and a reason to use it.
My max is 20 points (roughly) And no more than 10 in a stat. And that is for clothes that weigh a lot, like 10-12 pounds. So like 10 damage, 5 energy, 5 rads or something.
If its just a simple outfit like a shirt and jeans, i give it 0 defense but give it 1 or 2 weight.

    Value:
If its craftable, keep it low. Like 10-20. You dont want anyone to profit from your armors! Lol
Keep crating requirement resources low. Some mods make armors take like 8 leather and ballistic fiber and stuff...i usually use 1 leather, 1 adhesive maybe some steel and rubber depending on what it looks like...and 10-14 cloth.
If its a unique one found in the gameworld that you cant craft its not a big deal, as long as its reasonable like 100 or so!

    Backpacks:
I also look at the back of an outfit, see if it comes with a backpack. If it does its ok to give it its own built in backpack slots. My wasteland sniper outfit does this so you can refer to that!
Backpacks take up the lower and upper slots. (54 and 55). This is not a “set rule” and an author can use any slot they wish. Its common for authors to use slot 58. You cant always change this in the armor addon folder (it will go invisible when you wear it), so just add slot 54 or 55..or both to the backpack. Its ok to use multiple slots at the same time, all that might happen is an accessory that might use slot 58 wont be compatible which is pretty rare.

    Helmets:
Make sure helmets dont use the headband slot. Delete that because masks use it, that way all helmets can be used with masks.

At the bottom is otbe.,or obte...(or something like that) copy this over as its needed for the dynamic naming system. (dncasual or dnrugged ect...) so the symbol (type) shows up on front of your items name.
This area also sets up backpacks to come with its appropriate upgrade(s) or else they wont have any to start. This area sets up any default properties a piece of armor might come with when you first pick it up.

    Other tips:

If its a mask see if it covers the head or eyes. It needs the appropriate ma and ap keywords so it gets all its appropriate addons! (A mask only covers the mouth gets only a mask upgrade but one that covers the eyes and mouth gets a mask upgrade and eye upgrades...)

Look at other horizon items and compare! There is an example of almost every possible combination of headgear and armor.
If its a casual outfit, dont go overboard. Just because your adding a new item doesnt mean it needs the best stats! If its big a bulky give it weight, but give it some extra defenses as a trade off.

Good examples of patching bandoliers neckwear rings and other unique items is my crimson accessories patch. Theres a ton of examples in there of unique items that may seem confusing at first!

AGAIN: compare compare compare! Even if you dont know what something does or why something is removed from horizons items..... just copy a similar horizon item and your good to go!!

Thanks for doing this! I only skimmed through it but it looks good.

Would anyone care to write up something for weapon patching too?

Amen. I really want to know how to patch. We could use more patches for Horizon. I understand the system pretty well and have at least 500 hours in horizon alone, thorugh different versions. With your permission and original authors permission, I would probably patch half of nexus, lol. Thanks for this RicktheNexus!

Another thing with armors is you can still set your own rules. Ive made a holster a backpack, given a backpack chest utility upgrades and even made a eyewear clothing item give you rads when you wear it! Sometimes switching things up keeps things interesting.

To me the greatest thing zawinul did for fallout was setting a general standard for armors. Some dont like this, they see it as boring. But to me, it is completely the opposite! This standard has made it easier to add and balance unique features that added armors might have! Its easy because anything i add to my armors i can just as easily take something away.

Fallout has tons of magic effects and tons of conditions to play with, its really fun and not too difficult once you get the hang of it!

Im no pro, but i dont mind helping out if your stuck with anything!
