1. The problem with unscrapped material NOT being counted towards linked settlement budgets (i.e. the whole purpose of this mod and why I made it for my fiancee) has been resolved some time ago. Which, to me at least, is pretty funny seeing as she still manually scrapped items, she and I both ignorant to this fix, up to the day I posted this mod and found this out! Well- oh well. I made this for her and to get acquainted with the Creation Kit, and had fun doing it! So if you don't feel like this is needed, that's ok, I won't be offended! She'll still use it because it has a duck on it =D
2. Someone else already made a similar grinder, before the CK came out (props to Isathar for scripting this before the CK was even out!) This mod is located at http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10555/? I had not seen this mod on Nexus, nor on Beth.net, and had no intention of copying Isathar's work, so I apologize if this seems very similar to the previous grinder and I apologize to Isathar especially for the similarity. I also assure everyone that all scripts and parts of this mod were 100% my own work, although the model for the grinder itself was ripped from a vanilla object (see the back of the bowling alley in Mr. Handy-ville). Again, this was simply to get acquainted with the Creation Kit and Papyrus, as it's my first mod and indeed first time I've worked with any of the tools, including working with textures, scripts, the CK itself, etc. So, I enjoyed playing around and making it. Feel free to use either Grinder, both Grinders, or no Grinders! I will take no offense to anything, and if Isathar requests I take this one down, I will happily do so (once my Fiancee gets to download from the PS4, that is).
I don't care if that stuff is fixed or if there are other mods that do this similar function. This machine looks AWESOME and I enjoy how it can scrap weapons and armor if you transfer it to the inventory. Thank you for such a great mod!
I actually love this mod still, sometimes I'll be looking for a specific crafting material, only to realize that I have no raw materials, but it's junk that hasn't been scrapped yet. So I have to manually search through thousands of pieces of junk just to find it.
er.. didn't see anywhere in the description claiming to be able to scrap anything other than junk items, but tried anyway. I was right, weapons or armor are just transferred to the workshop inventory as expected. Nice mod anyway, handles junk items beautifully.
Hello! Can I do it so that I can grinding the weapons and armor that I put in them? I'm tired of crawling out of the raid on the Commonwealth and spending time sorting out armor and weapons on a workbench ...
This bug this mod was originally intended for may have been resolved, but this mod still helps quite a bit with the Contraptions DLC. Using raw components is a lot more efficient for time and resources when building factories. I also find that just in general cutting down the clutter in the inventory makes it a lot easier to sift through your inventory.
Just wondering, but has anyone else installed the mod and had trouble to get the "Scavver" achievement? I normally never take junk apart manually, always the using the Grinder... so I was wondering if the mod might be the reason.
I presently have 30K junk in Sanctuary... so I certainly should have unlocked "Scavver" by now. And yes achievements are working otherwise.
While playing the other 3 game endings, I also started a new game (new char) that had no Grinder built at Sanctuary. And I then went about collecting items that contain "junk"... like pencils and clip boards for wood. I did not scrap trees or the like, *no scrapping done* at all. Had to visit the local towns and collect quite a few (a 1000 actually) such junk items. And that worked for me... unlocked the Scavver achievement right away. I would guess that scrapping trees and buildings should work as well (but I did not want to risk it when I tried the above).
BTW... one can track the Scavver progress with the counter: Pip-boy -> Data -> Stats -> General -> Junk Collected. When I reached 1000, the achievement unlocked immediately.
Why did Scavver not register for me? ... a guess: It could be that when you - lets say - have 900 junk items under "Junk Collected", and dump a huge amount of junk items into the Grinder, let us say more than 100 in this case (120 or so), that the Grinder then updates the junk counter too quickly, i.e. in one step, so that you suddenly have 1020 junk items. The counter for the achievement then only sees 1020, but is looking for the 1000 mark to be passed... but if only a count of = 1000 is checked, that achievement will never be unlocked. Well... that is my guess of what happened. I might be wrong.
Looking through the Sanctuary workshop, after running The Grinder v1.1 on quite a few things made me wonder why I am still seeing so many "un-broken-down" items. Making me wonder if I was doing something wrong.
When I manually add "Pipe Auto Pistol (6)" to the Grinder via menu, not via the automatic Grinder Box (obviously), and run the Grinder on these weapons they just get moved to the workshop and are not scrapped. Same for much of the clothing (e.g. "Dirty Tan Suit"), though in the latter case I cannot break down the clothing at an armor workbench either, so this seems to be normal.
I can create a detailed list of the weapons that are not scrapped if that helps.

(Sorry, just remembered putting this under bugs.)
