You should spend allot more time at the cooking station. It saves you allot of Stimpacks by cooking all the collected meats you can get from dead corpses, which is very helpful in the early game when Stimpacks are in short supply. Not so much in the late game though, unless you are playing Survival Mode of course.

If you are wondering why i used wine is to make vinegar, corn is for cornstarch and corn syrup, while razorgrain is for flour.
