It doesn't work, at least for me. I had followed all of the installation steps correctly and when I opened fallout 4, all of the audio of muted. then when I had uninstalled the mod, it kept crashing my game until I had to uninstall the entire game. Do not download this mod!
You could actually do it yourself easily by just renaming the new vegas tracks to match the file names to the ones in the screenshot required for the current mod to work.
So this mod does work 👍 Though it didn't appear to work until I tried some extra steps mentioned by some other users here;
- DON'T put the .wav files into sub-categories like Public, Dungeon, etc. I think that picture is just to show how they are organised in Fallout 3's game files. Just drop the converted .wav files (I used Audacity for converting), straight into the FO3 folder.
- The FO3 folder might need to be created by you. The mod didn't automatically make this folder for me.
- Apparently when converting, you might need to make sure the .wav files are 16 bit format not 32 bit.
- Apparently you might need to add this line to your Fallout4.ini file, under the Audio section: sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\TEXTURES\MUSIC\
These are all the things I did before it started working, I'm not an expert, so perhaps not all of these are required? Just sharing my experience hoping it can help others to get this mod working! 😊
*Also, not sure this music plays in the DLC maps, I've mostly been in Nuka World lately and I haven't heard it there at all. It has played once I've returned to the Commonwealth though!
Man, tyvm for this! you can't imagine how much more fun this adds now to my game. After played Point lookout mod, heard the music, got hit by nostalgia and the feel for the amazing game FO3 was, i was looking if i can find a mod like this. Here i did...really appreciate it. In terms of music (and to me LOTS more!) Fo4 unfortunately is nowhere near Fo3. So again, thx!
For those of you using Audacity to convent files to WAV format. Don't make the same mistake I did. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why this mod wasn't working. I did everything right, followed all the steps.
Turns out you need to specifically convert the files to WAV 16 BIT format. DO NOT CONVERT TO 32 BIT. it will not work. I reconverted all the files and put the esp at the bottom of my load order using LOOT metadata (that part probably wasn't necessary) and now it works like a charm.
I've converted all files to wav, archive by link. you just need to download it and unpack it into the music/fo3 folder. however, this mod does not replace the soundtrack of the four with the soundtrack of the three, so if someone wants a plugin with a replacement, write to the PM. link https://disk.yandex.ru/d/KmPqudlUYWf7fw edit: mod-archive with all edits here https://drive.google.com/file/d/112LTSdiNZ9bR0Q44KNaa9bMO3spHQSmB/view?usp=sharing
how do you activate your edit mod-archive into Mod Organizer 2 ? I want to replace the fallout 4 songs by thoses of your archive for then have the songs of fallout 3 rather than thoses of fallout 4. But i dont understrand how you have done or how it could be done -_-
I was looking around for a mod that does this and I'm surprised that this one seems to be the only one that doesn't replace anything.
Following from the comments here and some quick modifications with F04Edit, you can make the files smaller and remove the references to the Main Title music if you don't like it with this;
(Pre-requisite) Optional 1 - How to convert the F03 Music from .mp3 to .xwm without Bitrate issues
Using the original F03 in-game music files (X:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\Data\Music), copy all the .mp3's from the folders (Base, Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Public, Special/MainTitle.mp3 if you want it).
Go to an online audio converter like (https://online-audio-converter.com/) and set the quality/bitrate settings to a Constant 192kbps. Leave all the other options i.e. Sample Rate/Channels alone.
Get the MultiXWM Converter (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3663?tab=description), and open the settings.ini file (wherever you installed the program to) with a text editor and change the Advanced option to 'ShowBitrate=true'.
Open MultiXWM, add all the .mp3 files from earlier into it and set the Bitrate dropdown menu to 192kbps. Convert them all to .xwm
Put these converted .xwm's into the Mod's ...\Data\Music\FO3 folder, and then zip it back up, or just copy them into that folder while still zipped.
With a text editor, open up the .esp and change all the .wav's to .xwm's. You can do this quickly by pressing CTRL + F, and Replacing all '.wav' with 'xwm'. There should be 29 entries, if you decide to do change them individually yourself.
MAKE A BACKUP OF THE .ZIP, RIGHT NOW. IF YOU BREAK SOMETHING OR IT DOESN'T WORK, IT'S BETTER TO START AFRESH THEN TO TRY AND FIX IT FROM SCRATCH.
Install the mod (either with Vortex, NMM if you're still using it, or Manually)
Optional 2 - How to remove MainTitle Music without breaking the mod or getting CTD's
Once installed, get F04Edit (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2737/) and open it. I don't think it particularly matters what version, I used an outdated one without issues.
F04Edit will prompt your load order. Right click > 'Select None', and then only select the F03Music Mod in the checkbox list.
Open the FO3Music.esp dropdowns, right click THIS Music Track Entry: '?01004B85 FO3MainTitle', and select 'Remove' (ONLY 'Remove'). It should look like this. It brings up a big warning box afterwards, but it's fine, it just deletes that reference to MainTitle Music.
Right click the very top dropdown (i.e. '[01] F03Music.esp') and click 'Check for Errors'. This will bring up what Music Type Entries should also be removed. For reference, they are:
Remove these entries in the same method as before. It'll look something like this: (i.e. this is MUSzExplore [MUSC:0001ED25] MUSC \ TNAM - Music Tracks \ Track #36 -> [02004B85]
After removing the entries and checking for errors again to make sure all the references to MainTitle Music are gone, just close down F04Edit. It will ask you if you want to save your edits, and you just keep the checkbox on and click OK.
Use whatever Load Order Sorter you use (like LOOT) to order the .esp with the rest, and you are done!
If for some reason none of this has worked, then here, a copyright-friendly copy that has no music files in it (you will still need to convert the original game music from your computer to .xwm before use: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c_c4nuLj269qrmqlVMbPPZmdCu5ueCoX/view?usp=sharing)
All the credit of course goes to FGModule as the modmaker, and Asrakorn/zMaZT3Rz for pointing all this out. I just tinker and make writeups.
An unsung hero! Thank you for writing all of this for other users. I've been using this mod for just about over a year now along with a couple of other sound tracks as part of Music Mods Merged and everything all works amazingly perfect.
The only way I can see this improving is by adding in the combat end tracks for when combat has ended. And to also keep certain city/town music to their respective locations rather than playing just out in the wasteland.
Okay, so, with about 150 or 180 hours roughly with this mod, I've now finished the game with all DLC and I noticed technical wise, it works well, other than the fact that with Asrakorn's suggestion, converting the audio to XWM makes it so that some parts of the audio lose bitrate for some reason.
The mod works just fine, but on other terms, for example the combat music is way too god damn loud, at least from the source where I downloaded the soundtrack, not the game files. Obviously the only fix for this is to edit the audio levels yourself. Maybe the FO3 game file versions have better volume adjustment. At least I don't remember lowering the volume of the game when I finished Fallout 3 the first time a year ago.
(Yep, the ingame version has proper volume adjustment. Get the soundtrack from the game, not from the official soundtrack, unless you want your ears blasted)
Also, combat music is missing the finale parts, which means the music just fades out when you exit combat. The finale pieces are already part of the sound tracks at the end at least with the Fallout 3 music.
Finally, why is the main menu music also played while exploring? It's honestly pretty obnoxious.
"at least from the source where I downloaded the soundtrack"
So you do not own the product and downloaded the music, even though the mod author has already said "You need to make sure you have a copy of the Fallout 3 OST or the music files from Fallout 3" which you do not.
I have never seen someone ask for a ban before for admitting to downloading something that they do not own.
Do you actually care that I downloaded the soundtrack off youtube for myself even though I already own the game but didn't want to redownload the whole game just for it? Get a life
Lmao, ignore that loser. Got a lot of those on the nexus, actually getting pissy over you not downloading the music directly from fallout 3. What a baby
...converting the audio to XWM makes it so that some parts of the audio lose bitrate for some reason.
It's likely because the bitrate of the original in-game F03 music has different bitrates (192, 224, 320kbps), whereas XWM has a (hidden, by default) bitrate options dropdown that only has settings between 20-192kbps. i.e.
I'm going to try to convert the original in-game F03 Music to lower (192kbps) bitrates first with one of those online bitrate converters and then repeat the XWM step with the 192kpbs bitrate setting and see if that solves the problem.
Edit: This worked! I will detail this properly (and how to remove the Main Title Music in the playlist) in a separate post.
