I have not sided with any of the factions, both in main game or in the DLC.
In the Commonwealth I've built all of the settlements in the north and connected them with Trade Routs and them connected Coastal Cotage to Longfelow's Cabin (the first settlement in the DLC you get right at start) other than that you have the whole Isle to explore yourself.
