Would it be possible to duplicate New Vegas' Mojave Express functionality(throwing regular items in, and picking a destination shipping station...some constructed in settlements, some pre-built in specific locations like the Diamond City Market)? Or is some wonky Bethesda-ness preventing it?
Another dumb suggestion...if a delay on delivery is added in later, perhaps add a construct-able "Shipping Manager" workstation that can reduce the wait time by a percentage for every settlement with one staffed? (and maybe even add tracking tags to the caravans that are based in that settlement...)? Maybe even using a copy of the Castle radio station? (you could even throw in a mini-quest where you have to go take control and activate those radio-towers and relay station scattered across the Commonwealth.)
Purchasing shipments works just fine for me, but crafting shipments out of existing materials does not actually remove the used materials from my inventory afterward.
That's what I meant, sorry, should have specified. All my materials are in my /Workshop/ inventory, not my player inventory, and it doesn't remove them when crafting shipments (using existing materials). I.E. I have 94 gold, I craft a shipment of 25 gold, and I still have 94 gold afterward in addition to the new shipment of 25. Purchasing shipments (crafting with caps) works perfectly though.
If I understand it correctly, although you could setup regular supply lines, this would allow you to ship it directly to any settlement even if you had no supply lines setup anywhere? This would help keep more settlers at home instead of being Provisioners, and immediately helps you send/receive stuff at any settlement as soon as you get LL1. Is this a correct assessment?
Yup, you get the ability to convert one level faster than the ability to setup supply lines. On top of that you can carry the receipts with you for when you unlock a new settlement.
