Looking at picking this back up.. is there still interest?

Why isn't the other one as good, please?
As far as I can tell, the other one changes the text properly so you're no longer the desperate parent.
What does it do poorly or that mine doesn't?
Why continue work on this one, instead of looking to create different mods etc?

Trying to gauge what more I can really do on this mod.

This mod is just so cool! I hope you do decide to pick it up again.

You know, one thing that console Fallout 4 doesn't have at all is a stable alternate start mod: the author of Start Me Up has decided not to reupload it to Bethesda.net due to the how toxic he was treated by users on the platform, so alternate start mods are incredibly limited. If you were to pick the mod back up and decide to fix it up and put it on Xbox, it would be a godsend, because there are legitimately no options, the only other stable alternate start is just to skip Sanctuary. It doesn't need to be comprehensive or feature rich, and maybe even it might be better that way, just for a fast way to get into the game with no bells or whistles: just a stable way to jump into a new game immediately without breaking any main quests like most of the alternate start mods do. Simply making this mod as functional as possible would be amazing.

After using Alternate Start in SSE I couldn't imagine this game not having one. You have my vote to carry on!

Yes!!!! There are almost no other alternate start mods. This one is great and adds replayability, something that fallout 4 is missing compared to the previous games!!

Absolutely this is a worthwhile project. Some feedback to your points:

StartMeUp is good, but forces us into either just a normal game skipping the prelude or to accept all the dialogue changes. Sometimes it's nice to have a new starting position to jump somewhere in the story, but still play with the vanilla dialogue to experience spots we haven't been. That and wide ranging dialogue edits can cause conflicts requiring patches.

As far as I know, this is the only mod I've seen with a functional Institute start. Which is a big bonus. By the time I get to there through the game there's no way I'll join them, but starting as a courser or scientist is different. Smart use of the holotape to start up the vanilla main quest if needed.

As for a why, no mod fits the 'start me in a new spot or integrated with a faction' need without also messing with other things players may not want to mess with. Some smoother integration back to the vanilla content would be lovely indeed, but the base mod you have here is very good already. Also 'discontinued' scares people away, so even just shoring up what's here to make sure it runs well and putting it as a release would be awesome.

Gotta join the others here and hope you're actually reading this.

I'd say there totally is interest, since there's like almost no competition in alternate start mods. I know just three...
One is very basic: Do a vanilla start, skip the intro stuff or don't do vanilla. Nice for those who are just tired of the ol' vault scene, but dosn't offer anything interesting besides that.
Then there's Another Life, which was quite good back in the day, nice ideas and all but I guess a lot has changed since then and you don't really hear anything from the author anymore, so it became kinda obsolete for me.
This makes your mod kind of a Last Man Standing in the "alternate start business" and since you actually ASKED for opinions to pick this up again shows that this is not dead yet!

You already got pretty cool presets to choose from and all the other customisations which are just not given in the other alternate start mods. About the main story and the parent thing, well... There's always a way to introduce the main plot in some way other than originally intended. Like those mods for Oblivion or Skyrim, where you pick up rumors of what would have happened in a vanilla start and let's you choose to either investigate that and therefore making you go for the main plot or just leave it aside. Something similar for Fo4? Go for the "you have amnesia and if you wanna get your memory back of how you lost both wife/husband and baby, go somewhere and you'll find out" approach and bewm, you got your way into the main plot if you really want to. Just for a very basic suggestion.

To sum this up: You'd probably make many of us very happy if you pick this back up, as, imho, this is the one and only alternate start mod for Fo4 really worth picking up again ;)

I'd love to see this mod resume active status! I recently started FO4--like, a week before this post, in fact--and chose this mod because it offered a nice array of starting options, even though it was discontinued. I've so far encountered only one issue that affects my game, and that has to do with Vault 111; all of the internal doors are sealed, with the means to open them on the wrong side (naturally). So no cryogun for me!

      Hi guys thanks.

I tried booting up F4 back in Jan but I couldn't get into it.. I still haven't played Automatron past reaching the island or Nuka-World lol.
It seems quite unlikely I would pick this up again.
I honestly don't understand how some of you guys have more than 200 hours in F4. I think I only clocked 200 in Skyrim and that's because I restarted so many times across many consoles and years... I still haven't finished the main quest or Dawnguard! I haven't even started Dragonborne DLC lol.

I just flicked through the Papyrus scripts and honestly, they're a pile of dog poo so they wouldn't even be worth sharing.
I wasn't aware the mod actually works still, so that is nice to hear.
Maybe if there was something specific that you guys needed that wouldn't be too much I could take a look.. but I don't even get notifications so I'd probably miss your message.

p.s. I might have put the cryogun in the room at the top of vault 101.. you know the bit with the button to open in ?? I think it's in the shelf or something since I manually locked the vault as it was super buggy and took all the items you'd lose out.
You could also use the command line :P @ModHappyGamer

I agree 100% with what LittleM54 said. I respect that other mod author’s decision but as a console player it’s frustrating. Please make a stable version of this for Xbox!

Thanks for the reply, I'll go rooting around for the gun soon as I get back to Sanctuary. I read more of your mod's details and see why you locked off access to the initial Vault (this explains a few problems I had in accessing it to begin with). And hey, 455 hours put in here and STILL haven't reached Diamond City yet for the next story bit, because I'm having blast poking at vanilla and added sidequests in the "top" region on the map, or mucking with my settlements.

My laptop is, well, not great. A surprising number of games will run--on barebones settings, which is fine--and I try to squeeze as much play-value out of those as I can get. And mods are the #1 source of value-added additions available, especially mods like yours that give so many options to what would otherwise be a dull, interest-sapping repeat of the necessary opening sequence.

Just found this mod on Xbone, love the ability to skip the Vault and play as any faction. No problems coming in as the NCR ranger; didn't have the armor mod but otherwise worked great!

Just wondering, is there an option to start the game:
    In nuka world
    having completed the main quest
and ready to start radiant quests with a specified nuka world faction <operators, pack, disciples, merchants> ?

This would mean power on, star cores installed, etc..

so you dont start as a raider in the commonwealth, then go to nuka world.. you start as underboss in nukaworld, and then go to commonwealth

hey is there anymore talk about starting this mod back up, the only other alternate start mod puts in a script on nick and invalidates him for getting a clue, and massive amount of people are having problems with it. The author is gone so.....
I ended up using this mod for a long time since it was awesome, but stop as it threw me in after Kellogg died for some odd reason, so railroad and brotherhood were fully open, like the wall was breached and minuetemen were in the castle.....

I used this just to skip the intro and use the sole survivor start outside vault 111.   the infinite answer quest is bugged and doesn't end.   it did complete the one time i tried to start as a different start point, which was the minute man beginning.

the bug doesn't seem to effect the game at all, its just a quest that i can never finish.

is there a console command i can  use to finish it for now with out waiting for an update?

    This is a great mod.
only real issue i could see is a glitch where my pipboy was invisible (made a different character and it was fixed) and the whole "ghouls cant change their face with palstic surgery, even if its just removing the blood around the neck" bit

How about the regular start with the questline stripped out or converted in a corpse containing an item/note for the player to activate. Like Altered Beginning for Skyrim where the player woke up at the chopping block, this would leave the player to just wander the land free from everything.

This is an option i would love to have so far none of the alternate starts seem to have a "skip main quest line and set game to a state where its considered late game" in the sense of the factions are running around(some or all of them) and you are just yet a other person trying to survive to the next day instead of the hero of the wasteland

It would most likely be quite annoying to do considering the amount of quests that would need to be set to completed and what have you not but a start where you are just a john doe instead of the driving force to setting of a nuke would be nice

      Hi

I think in one of the starts you can start 'late' BoS - if not you can easily create a batch script to jump through the game!
