Do you have the HD DLC? If so, use this: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21956
If not you have another mod that's messing with face texture sizes and causing the bug or you're just unlucky and it's happening for no reason and it goes away if you reload, fast travel or restart the game.
That's all I got.
**EDIT 12 Nov 19** There are now HD DLC compatible versions of the two main files. Use these if you have the DLC. You only need the fix mod if you are using other face textures that aren't compatible.
No sorry. She uses custom morphs (mouth shape etc) , which I never released and may not even have anymore. She also has a custom high poly version of one of the styles from commonwealth cuts that I made to fit her head and clothes. I don't have permission to release that, I never asked.
I get asked this question a lot. I don't mind but I'm stickying it so anyone else who asks might notice it.
Hi fren, thank you for this mod. It's my favorite skin texture. I do have a question/problem thought.
I'd like to increase the shine of the textures; normally I'd just edit the specularity map (piperhead_s) but whenever I make my changes, save it, then load the game, I get the brown face bug. What's more, the brown face persists even if I undo the changes. Fortunately, reinstalling the mod fixes it. Do you what's going on?
Hi I'm new with modding. I'm trying to install this mod, but I can't get it to work. with the normal file you don't notice any changes, while with the HD DLC, I find myself with the character's face completely black. where am I wrong? please help me :(
Those are face textures that are not attached to any plugin (esp, esl or esm) so they are absolutely safe to remove or replace at any time.
Just do not use 2k face textures without finding 2k face overlays (make up, scars, face paints and so on) for them or you'll end up with the brown face bug because of different texture resolutions.
If you rename the textures, they won't work at all because they are in the wrong folder. Even if you put them in the folder where basefemalehead textures live and then renamed them, they wouldn't work on NPCs, not Bethesda NPCs anyway. They use pre-baked textures with the skin colour, face details, makeup etc all combined onto one texture. Only the player character and some modded NPCs use character creator textures.
As for the name, I can only guess why they named them Piper. I've talked about it before in this thread but the short version of that is that I don't know. What I do know is that vanilla Piper doesn't use them. They are used for the "young" female textures in character creator.
Also, why would I release a mod that requires users to rename files instead of naming them correctly in the first place?
And with that, i get a free little tutorial on how textures work in Fallout 4. Very insightful, thank you for that.
You are right about the naming conventions for the textures, of course. The only excuse i have for asking something so obvious is that i had been building my newest load order for eight hours straight and i had no two brain cells left to rub together at that time, haha.
Sorry but I cant figure out how to get this mod to work. I installed it and went to Doc Crocker, but there is no option to choose a preset. Do I have to start a new character to use this preset?
Not sure if it was an update to the player customization area, but I cannot find "01 mouth" or "01" eyes anywhere; it just gives me the options of "Pursed 1" mouth or "Shrewd 2" eyes.
As far as I can tell, I don't have any mods that customizes or changes anything; those options just aren't there.
The "shrewd" and "pursed" etc. names reference the the shape of the mouth, eyes, nose etc. The number afterwards is the texture. So choosing any shape that has 1 after it will use these textures. Where there is no shape and just a texture like on the forehead, cheeks and neck, I believe, you should choose "smooth", except for neck which for some reason is incorrectly labelled "weathered".

I do not doubt your expertise but i find it so odd that the textures are named as they are.
