1.1: - Support for non-QWERTY keyboards. - Support for non-WASD keyboard control schemes. - Support for Alt-modified keys for non-English languages. - Fixed issue with not being able to access the Journal sidebar menu while seated on furniture. - Fixed issue with some users not being able to open Journal after installation. (Journal metadata not loaded error) - Support for read-only functionality while a gamepad is connected. L/R triggers on a gamepad will now switch pages. (You must still unplug your gamepad to type.)
If updating, simply replace the files - no special upgrade procedure required.
I considered downloading this mod until I saw the abandoned bugs tab, full of bug reports and no responds to them. The last update date was 7 years ago... It's a shame really, for this mod is awesome but it needs much needed care on correcting the bugs.
Also I'm seeing typing to journal on pip-boy at images and come to think of it; how do you even type on your journal when you have no keyboard as interface on your pip-boy?
It's immersive but not lore friendly if you think technically. The things you could do about to-do list or something similar; keeping an pen & paper at your table or use (now in beta, fully fleched feature in a few weeks) Steam overlays take note feature. Thats what I'll do anyway. If by any chance this mod gets an update and bugs fixin' I might reconsider downloading. Take care lads & lasses.
Just so you know. Look in any Bugs tab on most if not all mods, most of those "bugs" aren't bugs at all.
As for "Lore Friendly"? Ever hear about a Diary? That would be exactly the kind of thing you'd expect Nora to be using seeing as she is a new mother and all.
Lastly, the age of a mod is not representative of it's quality. The only thing it represents is that over time someone else might have come up with another mod that does the same thing.
Think about it. Is Mod Configuration Menu (made by the same author) "obsolete" because it was made 6 years ago and hasn't been updated in the last 4 years? Pffft - it's a defacto standard mod in literally anyone who uses mods load order.
Bro I know the bugs tab very well. Not all of the posts are "bug" reports. Yes I have heard about a diary. Are you using pen and paper in this mod tho? No, you use pip-boy. And pip-boy doesn't have keyboard. (duh) Also I know age does not mean anything on mods.
No! I didn't mean that. If you read carefully my dude, I just mentioned that you don't have any input device (built-in or not) as to type for pip-boy to take note to. So how do you type on pip-boy if there is no input device for it to take notes in-game? This is just lore wise inaccurate. Also can we stop discussing about this please? I don't want to continue rambling on this matter. :/
I don`t understand mate. I mean its the same things as asking how would you rename a gun in the workbench if you cant type with your keyboard on the game, may be wrong tho
I doubt its the same thing. Lets say... you have a gun and you want to give it a name, you name it and call it that. The name you gave your weapon in your mind is just a reflection in the interface. I don't know if I explained that correctly.
I was thinking as well about the whole how to write on pip boy so my head canon now is that the pip boy has a built in microphone and the holotape has a speech to text feature.
I like adding background noises or dialogue my companions would say or add random encounter stuff like " *gunshots* " and stuff like that. It helps with the writing and it can justify grammar mistakes that could occur during combat or from malfunction.
(It can be a think since in Fallout there is voice recognition technology and in general voice commands.)
Also I have this mod and it works just fine. Haven't tested it with Ui change mods yet so I might try it and drop some info at some point .
If you want full immersion you can load the holotape into a terminal, FYI.
EDIT: Another thing you could do is add an automated <AUDIO TRANSCRIPT> type message at the header as Bethesda has done in some terminals, usually sporting some company logo. Very lore-friendly there. If the Pip-Boy has a speaker built-in odds are at least fair it has a microphone as well.
I love this mod a lot, it allows me to keep track of my thoughts and goals for each character while also leaning into the role playing aspect of the game. This combined with the start me up mod in my opinion are essential into being fully immersed into the game.
Really awesome mod. I hope you can update this to allow controller support to navigate the Journal menu. I know keyboard get locked, however when you are naming stuff you are allowed to type. I highly recommend you explore what renaming abilities enable, so that you can apply it to the mod allowing full keyboard support with controller.
If it helps Id love to see the arrow keys allow us to go back and forth pages, or just to navigate the journal menu. Anyways really enjoying this.
I love this mod, but it is very painfull to constantly alt tab to save it on your computer. lol
I have another mod called Fallsouls which make it so the world doesnt pause around you when your in a menu, or on a terminal. And its so incredibly cozy to be writing down your adventure on a terminal, in sanctuary, while you can hear and see everyone move and do their own thing. Maximum immersion.
As per the Description page: "Your journal is a unique holotape. Do not use the console to spawn another! If you've lost the holotape somewhere, enter the console command cqf journal giveitems to have your journal moved into your inventory from wherever it is in the world."
Hey guys, my keyboard does not have numpad and PgUp and PgDn fail to switch pages. Any ideas?
Edit: I fixed it by remapping the keys using this Microsoft app called PowerToys. For anyone with this issue, just download the app via this link and after opening it click "Keyboard Manager" on the side bar and switch it to "On". Below it after enabling, there should be an option named "Remap a Key". Simply remap there! You're welcome :)
i cannot get the mod to show up in my game for the life of me idk whats going on, you guys think its vortex? ive deployed my mods and unistalled created a new game 3 times downloaded an old version. idk what else to it seems im the only one having this issue this issue. can anybody lend a hand, I don't thin k it has anything to do with my load order.... WYA mod author lol
It's very important to check where the plugin is. It's best to have that plugin at the very end on the load order . In any case you can't find the holotape normally you can always use console commands (press the ~ button on the top left of your keyboard under the Esc button) and type : "help journal 4"
It will most likely show you the item code if the mod is installed properly. After that you type "player.additem {code of the item}" (without the {}) and then press enter and you will find it on your MISC category (You will also get the notification that the item is added to your inventory when you press the command)

also, in that sense, how would the character use a cursor in a pipboy?
