    I've been going over an idea I had for a lockpick overhaul that would change the mini-game itself. One idea was to change how one would pick a safe. People kept telling me 'there was no difference between safe and standard lock for picking', but I've noticed that your mod seems to actually tell the difference, because I'm never able to shoot the locks on a safe. Have you managed to do just that?

    I'm no modder, but this would let me push forward in trying to get the mod made.

      The mod only check on the target for the "HasSafeLinkTerminal" keyword if this is a container, and refuse to give the prompt to shoot it if it have this keyword.
      This isn't universal, it just happens that every vanilla safe actually have this keyword assigned (Iif I'm not mistaken, this is the one that allow to link a terminal to a safe to have the pre-built "Open Safe" prompt available in the terminal), because vanilla objects are extremely generic and intended to be used in a wide variety of cases like this one.

      If a mod add a safe but don't give it this keyword (because the modder never need to link it to any terminal in his whole project), then there is no way to tell if it's a safe or just a generic container.


      As far as changing the mini-game itself or providing a new one exclusive to safes (using the distinction method I just explained), you'll need:
      - Advanced knowledge of scaleforms (stuffs in the SWF files, both visuals items and ActionScripts)
      - Most likely write a few new functions to get the data you'll need to access via F4SE, so a bit of knowledge of C++
      - Obviously something like Adobe Flash CS_ or Adobe Animate CC (35€ / month) to design your new / alternative minigame menu.

      It's not impossible, but that's not something I'm willing to spend dozen / hundreds of dollars, and hundreds of hours into.

      It'd be a great overhaul, but f*#@, I don't think I'd want to push anyone into that who wasn't willing to. I was more curious as to how you were distinguishing the difference between safe and non-safe. Cool to know though, I appreciate it.
