About this mod

This changes a couple of limitations and balancing choices that stopped me from enjoying survival difficulty to the fullest.

Main Features:
Tweaked damage to prolong firefights while keeping weapons deadly. Has optional convenience functions like re-enabled fast travel, vanilla compass, carry weight, re-enabled console, etc.

Permissions and credits
Summary:

This mod addresses a couple of issues and inconveniences I had with the original F4 survival experience. It re-enables fast travel, adds a holotape that lets you make saves (inspired by DeEz and his mod Survival Saving - Holotapes), resets your carry weight to vanilla levels, and re-enables enemy detection on the compass.
Additionally to that I tried to reduce the damage you receive and deal to prolong combat encounters, while still keeping them lethal and fast paced.

This mod comes in 2 versions. Check the Package Description category for more in-depth info. In short, pick the Merged package if you want all features; pick the Modular package if you want granular control over all tweaks and changes.

22.05.2016 = Version 0.5 Released! Check important info below. =

Just uploaded the new 0.5 version files. There's a couple of big changes in there, I definitely recommend upgrading if you are using the old 0.4 files.

Changelog 0.4 > 0.5
  • Changed incoming damage from 1.25 to 1.38.
  • Changed outgoing damage from 1.42 to 1.72 due to later-game enemies being pretty bullet spongy.
  • [Experimental] New perk reduces explosion damage by 35% to avoid one-hit kills by molotov, frag grenades etc. Doesn't seem to work properly, use at your own discretion. Can be toggled from within the Holotape.
  • Damage tweaks can now also be toggled from within the Holotape.
  • Fixed cell reset bug issues. You now always get the saving Holotape first time you launch the mod. This avoids situations where your power armors were respawning as junk in Sanctuary. (if you are having this issue, download the new version)
  • Stopped using existing actor values. They were staying in the game even after you disabled the mod. This caused the damage tweaks I did to be persistant. I use my own values now and ignore the default.

Known Issues:
I will look into fixing these once I have time, till then; use the appropriate workarounds.

1.)
The mod doesn't properly add my Holotape if you start a new game with it. I think that's because the player doesn't have a inventory yet when the game begins. Enable the mod once you get out of the starting Vault.

If you already had my mod activated when you started the New Game and didn't receive a Holotape, do the following:
Disable mod > Launch F4 > Load Savegame > Sleep in a bed to save the game > Quit F4 > Enable mod

Now when you return to the game you should get a brand new Holotape. Drink a beer or something that buffs strength to re-calculate the carry capacity.

2.) The mod help text inside the Holotape regarding combat damage is obsolete. Please best ignore it for now.

3.) The default starting options in the "Options: Toggle Survival Tweaks" category might be a bit confusing. A little explanation: The mod starts with the reduced Explosion tweak enabled, and with vanilla damage disabled. That means at start time, my mod uses my tweaked damage values. To have default damage, simply enable the vanilla damage tweak.

!!! Important Important Important Important Important Important Important !!!
If you've never used my mod before version 0.5, ignore the following.

If you've used versions of my mod like 0.4, your savegame is unfortunately keeping some actor value modifications. You can't get rid of those even if you de-install it. Do the following fix to reset all values I changed to vanilla:

Delete old 0.4 version. Launch savegame without mod, save it. Install 0.5 version of choice. Then go into the game and:

1. Open console
2. Type:
player.setav HC_IncomingDamageMult 2
3. Press enter
4. Type
:
player.setav HC_OutgoingDamageMult 1.5
5. Press enter

Your savegames still might be preventing other mods that modify these values from taking effect, but now you can at least go back to vanilla damage rates. My mod now avoids using these values, but it's best to clean up just in case.

Important Notes:

A) My Fast Travel fix seems to work on existing survival savegames. other mods didn't work for you, give mine a shot. If that doesn't work, consult my manual fix in the Gumol IT Data Backup Utility Holotape that this mod introduces.
(which basically says, open the console with the tilde key "~" and enter this command, "set HC_Rule_NoFastTravel to 0")

B) This mod is still in testing. Consider yourself a beta tester. (backup your saves before usage)

Full list of features (if you chose to activate them all):

  • Survival damage tweaks. Incoming damage is now 1.38 instead of 2. Outgoing damage is now 1.72 instead of 1.5
  • Experimental: Reduced explosion damage by 35%. Not sure if it works properly. Enabled by default, use at your own discretion. If stuff seems weird, disable  in Holotape.
  • Holotape for saving and tweaking the game. Take a look inside.
  • Carry Weight reset to vanilla levels for you and companions.
  • Fast Travel is enabled again.
  • The compass detects enemies again at the same range as in vanilla.
  • The game console is enabled again

Other than that you pretty much have the default vanilla survival experience. Just without the grind, progress loss, and general unpleasantness.

Package Description:
The mod now comes in 2 versions. Merged and Modular. Pick the merged if you want all convenience functions enabled. You can still toggle the damage tweaks in the Holotape that you get. Pick the modular installer for full granular control. Regardless what version you use, you always get the special Holotape and game console gets enabled.

Important: Only use ONE of these packages.
MTM Survival Rebalance {version} Merged
This is the full standard release version of my mod. It includes all the changes and only lets you toggle the damage changers from your Holotape. If you like all convenience options, always pick this package. [installs 1 esp file]
-Has Fast Travel, Vanilla Carry Weight and Vanilla Compass enabled by default.

MTM Survival Rebalance {version} Modular Installer
This package offers the most
customization functions. As usual, you always get the holotape and enabled console. However this package also contains a bunch of exchangeable files that let you cover most combinations of options you might want. [installs up to 3 esp files]

Just follow the onscreen instructions if using NMM, if doing a manual install; consult the appropriate readme.txt file (as always, not recommended).

Upgrading from 0.4 to 0.5:

A) If you used any version of this mod older than 0.5

De-install the older version completely. Then launch your savegame without the mod, save the game after that. Now you can install and enable the current version of this mod.

Once in-game you will receive a new holotape. If you didn't purge your savegame as described above, you will now have 2. You can keep both or toss one, up to you. Afterwards consult the holotape. Read the upgrading instructions inside More Options > Help: Mod Troubleshooting

B) If you've never used this mod before

Install it as per usual, no need to worry about anything.

Installation:

A) Nexus Mod Manager

This mod is NMM compatible, so simply install it as usual. Open NMM, press the green "+" button, select my mods compressed archive and apply. Follow all the steps if there are any. Then activate it by double clicking on it's name in the list. (if NMM doesn't activate it by default)

B) Manual install (not recommended) - Consult the readme.txt of the package you picked.
C) Manual de-install (not recommended) - Consult the readme.txt of the package you picked.

Compatibility & Requirements:

At the time of writing I only tested the mod on the 1.5.157 client. I highly doubt future updates will break anything though. The mod requires no DLC's or Mods. It is completely standalone. I did however make a change in the hc_rules list. If you are a fellow modder and are experiencing trouble, take a look at that.

Important info for damage modders. I didn't change the fDiffMultHPByPCSV and fDiffMultHPToPCSV game settings much to adjust weapon damage, they somehow didn't seem to work properly for me. This mod now also ignores the HC_IncomingDamageMult and HC_OutgoingDamageMult actor values. Instead I use my own values which makes for a nicer and cleaner experience if somebody de-installs my mod.

Thanks and credits:

Big thanks and lots of kudos to all you modders out there that fixed many aspects of survival right after it's release. This really speeded up the search for variables and scripts that helped with changing survival for the better.

Warnings and advice:

Always backup your savegames before using mods. This way you have a fallback in case a mod is too invasive and messes with your game too much. Also, I do recommend you to use a mod manager if you don't feel comfy with manual installations. This will save you a lot of headaches. That being said, this mod shouldn't leave any unwanted effects if you deinstall it.
