Nothing to lose sleep over, but the Grunge paint, when applied, gives a "No Material" message in the PA station menu. The paint is applied though, so, like I said, nothing to get out of bed for. Wanted to tell you nevertheless
Yup, after application the Grunge paint shows that no paint is applied in the PA station menu. But, in fact, it is applied so no big deal. I also found that, once you apply the Grunge paint, it remains "checked" in the menu (i.e. a square beside it showing that it's been selected) even after applying another paint job. However that other paint job will indeed be applied so, yeah, again maybe not the biggest deal in the world.
@KevKiev - strange. I'm not sure why that's happening but I haven't updated this in a long while. When I get around to it, I'll see if I can adjust that small issue. Thanks for letting me know.
I think its time to pull worsins from my mod list. Nothing new for a long time and I honestly only ever used the specialty paints. This will be a kick ass replacement for my next game.
Thanks. I'm also thinking Worsin has left the scene. I pm'd him about some things when I started this project and still have had no reply. His mod is extensive and excellent, it's a shame to let it sit and decay. I've been pretty busy but I'm going to throw some time at this on the weekend.
I love this concept, "PA tattoos", as it were. Is it possible to add your designs as decals that could be added to existing PA paint jobs, instead of just a total paint job? The reason I ask is because I know many ppls use Worsin's or other PA paints and would be loathe to switch, BUT would love to be able to customize their existing paint jobs further. I'm not sure if this is possible, even with the GECK, but you seem to at least be on the right track.
As an example: Your helmet design is just plain badass, and I would love to be able to put that design in red on top of Worin's black painted helmet.
I agree 100%. Worsin's paint jobs are amazing. This is on my 'to do' list but I'm thinking I'll bump it to the top now. In theory it's very possible. I could just remove the texture background from my images and only the decals would be left. From there, however, I'm not totally sure how to proceed. I'll poke around Worsin's mod and try to see how it handles the arm/chest decals. I think it's just a new snap point, possibly layered one higher than the armor texture itself. If I could make a similar snap point and re do the texture files, it could be that simple.
If anyone reads this and has any insight on this process, please feel free to share. You'll get full credit in anything made with your help.
I have an idea. Worsin has a decal system in place already. So, maybe if you talk with him, he can expand his chest decal, into each part having a decal option, and your decals here could be put into those sections!! Would be awesome!! He'd also likely be able to put a black option, for if you have white power armor. I use his mod too, so figured I'd bring up the idea
Good call. I'll send him a message too and see if he can offer any insight. I think he set up that decal system as snap points, but since it does show up on top of the armor the potential is there for mine to do the same thing. If that worked I'd easily be able to change all the colors of my work and offer all/some of the different parts you see in this mod -- as decals. And then any new work would follow that format as well so you could have the entire paint job, or just all/some decals. In many colors
Would love to get a red medic symbol that could be put on Curie's PA, maybe a smiley face with a bullet hole for Cait....stuff like that would go great on PA skins I think.
@theoriginaldreadbeard:That was exactly my thought process!! I like the idea of customizing armor as much as you can. I give each companion a set of armor to fit their personality, and currently, there isn't much ability to. Like, I wish the X-01 had the Minuteman paint job, as Preston would get that. As Crimsonhawk said, Medic cross, (plus things like the serpent over the staff logo, and other medical related logos), would allow me to deck out a medic PA set for Curie. A rough, brawler, Irish themed set of logos for Cait. (Though my current Cait is using Gambits AMAZING version of Cait that looks soooo much like Harley Quinn). Etc... for customization. I'm sure he will be willing to work with you, as it would add some freshness to his mod, which from what I have seen, majorly slowed down.
Not really sure he is active anymore....he hasn't posted since March, which is a shame since he has the definitive PA paint system. Could be he gives you permission or he may never respond, in which case you would have to do it all from scratch. Here's hoping he responds with a hearty "Go Ahead!"
Fingers crossed that he does. I'd love to work with him/integrate my decals. So far I've learned that his decals slot in (with a material swap) to the chest decal spot which I think was already in the game. My next step is to figure out if I can create more slots like this and how they're told where to snap and layer. I'm going to have a better look this weekend. I like the enthusiastic support and all these decal ideas!
Update: Sent Worsin a message, waiting on reply. I did creep through his mod a bit and while some things I saw gave me ideas and hope, other things I tried (such as swapping decal files for a full 2048x2048 texture) didn't work. I'm still trying to solve the mystery of how the decals are told where to apply, how big to be, etc. It could be hard coded in some way and therefore not easy to edit - but I'll keep brainstorming and testing. If all else fails I'll just continue standalone paint jobs and make color variations. They can be converted later when a method is revealed.
Thank you kindly! I'll continue to see what I'm able to do for a while as well. I still want to try other armors, play with normal/specular mapping files and higher resolutions. I'm happy so many enjoy it thus far.
Ok. I'll make a video tutorial and upload some 'area test' files so you can see what ends up where in game, and I'll include a GIMP version for people to play around with. Just give me a day or two to polish that off so it's properly useful, and I'll upload it and put links in the description.
@PugGod It is finished. Have a look, give it a shot, post in comments if you get stuck. Enjoy! http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13227/? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDp2cHifNxA
Absolutely it does! That's how it earned it's name. Which I think is fitting for a game that walks that same line. This paint job is the end result of my learning process so it's a bit more of a test of what's possible than anything else. That said, I do enjoy it quite a bit and wear it in game. I'm glad other people are having fun with it too! I plan to make more that keep in the 'tattooed power armor' style of detail like this one but that will step back from that aforementioned line a little bit.
Thanks AEon2001! I personally couldn't find anything with high detail like this, which partly motivated me to create it. I was also inspired by the "HD Power Armor Paintings" mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9868/?) - I'll fix this link when I'm not on mobile** but I wanted to take it a bit further. I'm going for something like a detailed motorcycle paint job, but it does end up a bit like a tattoo layout since the armor is human-ish in form. I suppose I have said tattoo several times already as well
Thank you kindly to everyone who commented, endorsed, downloaded, and viewed so far. And to anyone who may do so in the future. The positive feedback is very motivating.

Looks rather nifty... though I do have the feeling it is skirting the edge between comical vs. threatening.
The white "tattoos" look very crisp on that black armour. I do not seem to recall seeing that detail elsewhere... strange.
