Your Wasteland Workshop creatures will defend against all threats, even those of the same species. They will also not kill each other if they are natural enemies.

This mod makes it so that any creatures you tame with the beta wave emitter will fight other creatures of the same species. If you have a bunch of deathclaws and some wild ones attack, your defenders will come running to fight off the attackers. It also makes all species get along when tamed so you can have any mix match of critters.
also, a smallside effect perk is that if the beta wave ever gose down, they seem to fight each other as well as your settlement, so in a way they are still defending you :P
