This will FINALY be receiving an update in the upcoming weeks. The update will overhaul the meat system to add in the effect of the Wasteland Survival Guide Extra Meat. I will also be adding support for the DLCs finally. I am thinking about making several patches for popular creature mods but unsure of this yet. I will also likely add a few options to the amount of meat dropped such as a realistic mode, a unrealistic mode, and a little more than vanilla mode. If anyone has any wants for this mod now is the time to speak up. I will also start working on certain features previously mentioned but do not expect them to come quit yet. I am so sorry that it has taken me years to come back to the mod.
Remember, no one says you have to pick it up. I was just comparing the future of Realistic Meat Drop to Hunterborn for Skyrim and one of the options was to dispose of the corpse after you've salvaged what you wanted.
With mods like Lootable Birds, Humanoids Are Very Full and Aquatic Bestiary a script for detecting meat types and applying the formulae to the new types of food seems to be vital.
Edit: Unique NPC: Creatures and Monsters just makes this even more vital.
Let's be honest, shall we? This is becoming the Vault-hunter framework. (No, not Borderlands, Fallout's answer to Hunterborn! Yeesh!)
I mean this as a compliment, by the way. Scrapping trees, vehicles, vending machines, and the like to get resources based on the size of things and how good or decrepit a condition it's in, getting meat drops based on the critter's size, these things are immersive and screw the fake economy which makes me feel good.
I love Hunterborn for Skyrim and I think the Vault-Hunter framework is as well. An MCM menu for whether there is spoilage, the rad levels and the time taken (if any) scrounging/scrapping a tree, item or hunk of junk would be great. Given how F4's Creation engine is a reassigned and not very reworked successor to Skyrim's, it should be doable.

Needed, since this MOD breaks "Food" / "Raw Food" in the Valdacil's Item Sorting
look at the esp, and look for red highlights. you will see the names of the items there. drag and drop to the right. and boom. fixed.

After all, in actuality, field dressing an animal can take several hours.
