You're wrong. By using power armor (which lets you get hit once without getting the disease guaranteed), leaving all companions out of the mission, excessive use of VATS, an explosive plasma scattergun, not looting any of the infected mole rats, and a tiny bit of save scumming, I can confirm that you can get through the mission without contracting the disease. The fact that if a companion gets hit and you get the disease in the vanilla game is either a stupid design decision or a stupid bug.
I can confirm that Too , player can finish the mission without disease , in vanilla its easy to make it when no follower is with you. So this mod can very usefull when you will do this mission with a follower , i no have this mod ... i have do this mission alone , but nice Wenderer have do this fix.
Yeah, I've been through this mission in 3 play throughs - only contracted the disease for the first time on the most recent one. And in all play throughs, I had no power armor and had a companion.
Wenderer, don't know why I'm just now finding this stuff... sheesh I need to search better. Thanks for this!
Quick question: does this apply to the robot as well? In my most recent play through, I released the automatron this time. My companion and I were hanging back and the robot immediately hit a spawn point and got attacked by a mole rat. I'm three rooms down and ONLY because I happened to be playing on 1.5 with the new on-HUD status icons, I immediately noticed I got the mole rat disease when the robot got bitten. Couldn't believe it. Looked it up and sure enough, it's talked about in the community as a known issue.
So, I'm assuming the script edit really applies to anything in this case, including that stupid robot. But wanted to double-check.
In vanilla when MGEF applies it runs script that directly gives player disease, no matter on who this MGEF actually was applied. So since robots are same NPCs as all others when they hitted player get disease, and i have no idea about what Beth's devs thinked when doing it. So i make two version of this script. In one i placed check for if hitted actor is player, then give player disease. And second is give disease to actor that was hitted. Technically in second variant robot can get disease, but if you using protectron as canon meat then it not much matter.

Would Bethesda really be so sloppy as to put magical things into their premiere Science Fiction title?
