I installed Weaponsmith Extended 2 which of course includes this mod and for some reason my character holds the swords like a baseball bat with his right hand like halfway up the blade, any idea why?
Thanks for another sword mod Billy! The crossguard, hilt and that wiggly part at the bottom of the blade aren't exactly to my taste, but the blade itself has the best looking geometry I'm seen on here, I love the beveling! It somewhat reminds me of the Master Sword actually.
Alright, I've unhidden the mod. Gambit77 has remade the .esp file for me, so now it doesn't have any dependency on the Regent any more. You will need to obtain it through the use of console commands!
I downloaded Regent and Crecy, but there were no mods available and the damage was, quite frankly, sh*t. Is the damage on Menace the same as the previous two swords, and would you be willing to add some weapon mods to it?
Technical question: Why couldn't you use the files for one of the in game swords as a base and overwrite using F04 edit to make the weapon and modifications? You might have to make a bunch of new meshes/textures for the modifications, but why would that not work?
I am asking seriously because I am in the process of teaching myself more and more about making mods.
@Bengabriel, I would have tried but FO4Edit is difficult for me to visualise what I'm doing. I will wait until the CK is released before I start making moddable weaponry.
I apologize for making a critique. I have an idea of how much work went into this. It is a lovely model that is very well crafted and rendered. Technically it is awesome.
BUT...
I am enough of a sword geek to need to point out that this is in no way a Chinese sword. It is a variant on western fantasy swords.
If there is anything traditional about your Cheng from the lore, he would carry a jian. The Jain is the scholar's and general's sword of Chinese culture. They are straight, double edged and forward balanced. They are used to pierce and slash.
The jain was used by scholars and officers because it requires significantly more skill to use effectively than the dao. The dao is a common soldier's weapon. It is thick, usually curved, and single edged. The Japanese katana is descended from early straight bladed daos.
Cheng's jain would likely be more functional than ornate.
I am so sorry to be "that guy" in a post.
EDIT: The lore story is awesome. The model is awesome. The two together do not fit.
No, no it really can't. It can't any more than a claymore, katana, or a rapier could.
Now that said, the lore you wrote is awesome. It is very well written and I am certainly not trying to say it was a bad story. But, no. Just no to this being Chinese. It might be a Grognak sword that was made in China. But this model shows something that is likely higher quality than something like that.
Edit: and I am not saying that to be a jerk either. Please google the words jian and dao. Look at them, and you will see that I am not stating any opinion as much as stating facts.
I'm gonna have to back up Benga on this one. I mean, if some Chinese politician decides he wants to use a European sword, fine, nothing says that he can't. The issue here is this line:
"The Blade holds a similar design to many warrior swords used by Chinese scouts during the Great war."
That implies it is based on the Chinese Officer's Swords that are part of the actual lore. Those swords are clearly based on the Chinese jian. So by extension, it is implied that Menace is also based on the jian, when the design is clearly European.
C'mon dude, be the bigger man and just own up to the fact that you made a mistake.
Well... I didn't write it. I'll tweak the story so it's more ambiguous.
Yeah, no worries Bengabriel. I personally use the Regent over this as well (though I don't own one in real life - I purchased a Crecy but it hasn't arrived yet).
Kyotra, yeah, I know it's not based on a Chinese sword. Originally, I had no intention of making it related to the Chinese at all. Nophatus came up with the idea of making it Chinese, and I thought the backstory he wrote up for it was excellent, so I included it.
Also, I apologise if my initial reply seemed somewhat aggressive. My point was merely that many cultures are shifted from reality in the Fallout universe, such as the 1960 America art themes and the somewhat underdeveloped media devices. Thus, I see no reason why the blade could be implemented as a piece of Chinese culture
The Crecy is a fine blade. My fav from them is the Munich, which of course, requires a slightly different fighting style. I never bought a Munich, because I found that for about the same price as a decked out one, I could commission a blade, made with steel, quillions for a lefty (and yes being a lefty fencer is awesome) and blade geometry to my specifications.
Since marriage though, the wife has strongly argued that I really don't need another sword. I hate to admit that she is correct. She pointed out that for the same price I could buy things like an ultra top end gaming rig and a really nice chair.
If you are into Japanese style or Korean blades, MAS is pretty much one stop shopping unless you can afford a Howard Clark - or can get a traditional Japanese smith's work (only about the price of a Ferrari).
Ohh and Chris Zhou of course, for Chinese blades. The problem with Chinese blades though is the tremendous variation in quality. When they are good, they are as good as anything ever forged. However, 90% of the time they cut corners to a greater or lesser extent and sometimes you are left with a grossly over-priced, and even tacky, sword shaped object.

Well It's clearly a europeen sword, a europeen sword "made in china" ( like evry thing looooool bouhahahaha
EDIT: Updated the description. Now there are two stories: one for the normal version, one for the Chinese version.

If Fallout is set in a world where televisions are still black and white over 50 years from now, then this can be a damn Chinese sword

I am actually using the Regent. Your models are excellent. I am sorry for appearing to be "that guy."
Incidentally, I own an actual regent from Albion. I also own a bunch of other swords, some historical, some commissioned and some production.
And yes, I am very into fencing and kendo.
Again, I am sorry for appearing to be "that guy." World peace does not depend on the pseudo-lore description of an excellent model.

Also, re-uploaded the Chinese Symbols one because I forgot to include the cubemap.
