Thank goodness you put this out. As a gunsmith/armorer as part of my duties as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Navy I had both wood and synthetic stocked M14's in my squadron's small arms inventory. We were tasked to inspect all our weapons on a regular basis and one of the things we had on hand were several cans of Pledge furnishing polish to keep the wood stocked M14's from drying out and looking like new, not their age of nearly 40 years at the time. Seeing the textures for the stand alone M14 I cringed at seeing what amounts to wood suffering from dry rot and mistreatment.I'm so happy to see textures that actually make the rifle have a 'healthy' glow. If i were to come across a weapon that had furniture that looked as dry and beginning to splinter like the before pictures I'd burn the wood and invest in a synthetic stock.
No offense but your texture is pixelated and full of artifacts. even more than the original. what did you use to compress them? you really should use Intel texture works plugin for photoshop. it lets you compress DDS files with no quality loss.
Here is a link to that plugin https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-texture-compression-plugin-for-photoshop
I don't use photoshop, which is probably why. Sorry that they aren't quite up to the level of quality they should be. Hopefully you'll be able to overlook it.
i see, i'm guessing you're using gimp then, any way if your still have the raw un-compressed files. you could send them to me to compress them more efficiently and then i will send them to you.
I actually use Paint.NET. It's not the most advanced, but I'm incredibly familiar with it and fairly efficient with it. Unfortunately though, there is no going back from here, which is why I haven't tried to fix it myself. Thanks for the offer though!
The aim of this mod is to make the rifle look more natural and not like a chrome collector's piece. It's not supposed to be a ridiculous 4k hi-res super duper retexture.
The helmet is a custom rendition of an already existing mod, which I plan to include in a soon-to-come mod that replaces the vanilla army helmets with it and the combat armor helmets with the vanilla army helmets. The uniform itself is vanilla army fatigues. The ruck and pouches are from the "Wearable Backpacks and Pouches" mod.
I did, but I didn't figure the mod was popular enough to feel inclined to upload it. If you want, I can upload it. all I really did was color to to match the vanilla combat uniform and smooth out the normal maps.
Also if you want mod the helmet more you can add the spade on the side http://g01.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1FQYEHVXXXXcuXpXXq6xXFXXXv/New-Replica-font-b-WW2-b-font-M1-US-army-military-metal-font-b-Helmet-b.jpg
Also you could add a medic logo http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/361372137377-0-1/s-l1000.jpg

Just some examples of what you could add to the helmet which would make it look even better
Nice work. I did basically the same thing (also did some new stocks and resized the scopes), just been too lazy to upload it http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/images/19583/?go=force_view http://imgur.com/a/t96qP
Thank you! Yeah, you's is essentially the same. I was thinking of redoing the normal map for the stock, especially since some of the stocks aren't even wood, but I gave up on that. Your normal map for the stock looks great.
Yeah, I made the alternative stocks use a different normal map for a polymer effect. But now seeing your mod I think the wood looks too smooth in mine I always get upset that it looks fine in Nifskope but ingame it ends up looking blurry. Bethesda pls...
Hello, your retexture is natural color as good detail, and your helmet is good(because without ring), too. Any plan upload the M1 helmet? Keep it good result. @_@
I might make a replacer of the vanilla army helmet. The standard version will be as seen in the the screenshot; just OD metal, and the dirty army helmet may have a net or camouflage cover in the M1942 pattern or the Mitchell pattern. Not sure about that yet though.
