Fallout 4

Need Help?
If you've tried the fixes in this guide and are still having problems, please report to the MAIM Discord for further help.

Stimpaks Not Healing

Spoiler:
Show
  • This issue is caused by one of these things:
  • 1. Incorrect load order.
  • 2. MAIM not activating correctly.
  • 3. A corrupted save file.
  • Read the posts below to fix these issues then report to the MAIM Discord if it's still not working.

Load Order
Spoiler:
Show
  • 1. ALL your other mods
  • 2. MAIM Distributor.esp
  • 3. MAIM 2.esp (note this must be below distributor)
  • 4. Any MAIM patches such as Russian Stimpak patch etc.
  • 5. The End - There should be absolutely nothing below this, except a few rare exceptions such as sorting patches.
  • If a MAIM add-on has its own load order instructions follow those instead.
  • Check your load order for any incompatible mods, listed on the Description page under Compatibility and Load Order.

Activating MAIM
Spoiler:
Show
  • As of version 2.2, you should see two perks in your Pip-Boy perks screen when MAIM is running and activated:
  • MAIM - Master Perk
  • MAIM - Activated

If MAIM - Master Perk is missing
  • This may indicate a load order problem. Double check the load order instructions above.
  • If you have confirmed your load order is correct, you can add the perk manually with these console commands:
help "MAIM - Master Perk" 4
  • Note the FormID ending with 200, then enter this console command:
    player.addperk FormID

If MAIM - Activated is missing
  • You need to take damage from any enemy to activate the mod for the first time.
  • Note: jumping off a building or throwing a grenade at yourself will not work, you must take damage from an enemy.
  • If you've done that and your load order is correct and MAIM - Activated is still missing, it's likely you are suffering from an Apply Combat Hit Spell conflict.
  • Apply Combat Hit Spell is a feature used by perks that allows you to apply a spell when an actor gets hit. The game only allows one spell per hit, so if more than one mod tries to apply them at the same time, MAIM might fail to function. This problem is immune to load order.
  • You need to go through your load order and look for any mods that might trigger something when an actor is hit. Anything to do with knockdown, disarm, bleeding, hit sounds, perk overhauls etc.
  • Disable all these mods in your load order then test MAIM again. If it works, enable the mods one at a time until you find the offending mod, then please post it in the Posts page so I can add it to the Known Offenders list.

Known Offenders
  • MW Player Hit Sounds and Effects (patch available)
  • Immersive Fallout Combat
  • Weapon Disarm
  • VAFS redux

Testing MAIM
Spoiler:
Show
  • 1. Turn off lethal headshots in the MCM so you don't die instantly.
  • 2. Go find some enemies and get hit until you get a crippled limb.
  • 3. Check your Pip-Boy perks screen (not the level up menu). At the top of the list, you should see perks such as "- Injured Left Arm", "- Severe Pain", "- Bleeding Lightly" etc.
  • Note: jumping off a building or throwing a grenade at yourself will not work, you must take damage from an enemy.
  • Note: bleeding will only activate for 90s after each enemy hit.

In-Game Reset
Spoiler:
Show
  • Try doing a Force Refresh from the MCM before doing this.
  • This resets all of MAIM's effects on the player only.
  • This does not affect NPCs or remove any medical items.
  • 1. Make sure you are at full health and have no injured limbs. If not, sleep for 12 hours.
  • 2. Craft a MAIM Uninstaller item at the chem station under MAIM Utility category.
  • 3. Use it, then check your Pip-Boy perks screen and make sure "MAIM - Master Perk" and all other MAIM perks are gone.
  • 4. Enter this console command:
help "MAIM - Master Perk" 4
  • 5. Note the FormID ending with 200, then enter this command:
    player.addperk FormID
  • 6. Activate and then test MAIM (see above).

Clean Save Reinstall
Spoiler:
Show
  • This removes MAIM entirely and re-installs it.
  • All MAIM-added medical items will be lost (except for vanilla replacers such as Morphine etc.).
  • This procedure should be safe, but always make a backup save just in case.
  • 1. Open your game and load a save.
  • 2. Make sure you are at full health and have no injured limbs. If not, sleep for 12 hours.
  • 3. Make two saves (keep one as a backup) then quit to desktop.
  • 4. Disable MAIM and all its plugins in your mod manager.
  • 5. Open your game and load the save you just made. Ignore warnings about missing plugins.
  • 6. Check your Pip-Boy perks screen and make sure "MAIM - Master Perk" and all other MAIM perks are gone.
  • 7. Save your game; this is your clean save. Quit to desktop.
  • 8. Re-enable MAIM and all its plugins in your mod manager.
  • 9. Open your game and load the clean save you just made.
  • 10. Activate and test MAIM using the procedures above.

Testing MAIM on a Mod-Free Save File
Spoiler:
Show
  • If none of the above measures fix the issue, it may be your save file. The easiest way to determine this is to load a save with no mods on it.
  • Download one of these files and add it to your save game folder.
  • If you're using Mod Organizer 2, you need to find your profile specific saves folder. Click the saves tab next to load order, right click a save and open in file explorer. Place the downloaded save files here.
  • If using this save solves your problems, try using Re-Saver to repair your damaged save:

Setting Up Advanced Needs 76 for MAIM
Spoiler:
Show
  • 1. Disable AN76's bleeding by going to the "Needs System" page and turning off "Combat Conditions".
  • 2. Stop AN76's bandages from spawning by going to the "Game Settings" page and setting "Sterile Bandage Spawn Chances" to 100. Yes, 100, not 0.
  • 3. You may also want to adjust "Sleep Healing Factor" under Needs System to your personal preference.

Food Healing Too Fast
Spoiler:
Show
  • From MAIM version 2.1 onwards, some game settings are changed to slow down food healing when you're not on survival difficulty. If you use Game Configuration Menu, it may override these changes.
  • 1. Open MCM > GCM > Difficulty
  • 2. Scroll down until you see Effect Duration
  • 3. Set every slider to 10
  • 4. Scroll down until you see Effect Magnitude
  • 5. Set every slider to 0.1

Do you know why my medic perk isn't being updated to the MAIM version? I have no other mods that touch that perk AFAIK, maybe Crafting 76 but idts. It's showing the first rank of the medic perk as being able to carry more chems and Rad-Away and Stimpacks and when I take it it converges the MAIM aid items back to base game form ( Med-X, Rad-Away and Rad-X)

Interesting, did you ever figure this out or did you just go with it?
