Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

These are questions that get asked... well... frequently... um... yeah...

How do I use this mod?

This mod's Desc page is intentionally vague.  If you want a fully immersive in-game experience, please look for the clues on the Desc page and locate some initial items, one of which is fully immersive documentation on how to use the mod.  If you don't care about immersion, then most of your questions should be answered in this FAQ article or the separate "Cheating the Rings" article.  Please note, immersion lovers should avoid the majority of this FAQ.

What is the point?

SQUIRREL! - have you ever tried to look up the mathematical definition of a "point"?  It's funny how many perfectly acceptable definitions, though vague beyond belief, are out there.  But, I digress.

The non-mathematical point of this mod is that... there is no point.  From my personal perspective, it is meant to be an immersive and lore-friendly experience in game that will be expanded with new mods in the near future.  I basically wanted an immersive way to introduce glowing rings into the game which I could use primarily for identification of Provisioners, Settlers, and Companions.  Sure, there are different mods out there that "help" with that.  But I wanted something (1) visible from a distance, (2) visible in the dark, (3) low-key and not so "in your face", and (4) could be renamed at the Armor Workbench in circumstances where I needed to do that (similar to one of the goals of my Provisioner's Ring mod).  I then expanded the mod to include the addition of a stat modifier because, well... I felt like it  :)

Please, I just want the Glowing Rings!

Please see the separate article entitled Cheating the Rings.  Yes, you're a cheater.  Just own it.  I am too, sometimes.  That's why I wrote the article  :)

What Chem Station category are Glowing Rings under?

Glowing Rings (seriously, you had to ask that?).

But I don't see a Glowing Rings category at the Chemistry station!

That would be because you (1) haven't acquired and equipped the necessary item required for crafting Glowing Rings, (2) haven't found the holotape which completely explains all of the requirements, (3) don't have the proper Perks, (4) have your mods all screwed up, or (5) are blind as a bat.

One or more SPECIAL stats are not available when modifying a Glowing Ring

As noted in the holotape you find in game (Hooked on Phonics - apparently didn't work for you), modifying a Glowing Ring with a special stat not only requires Armorer 1 and Science 1, it also requires that you already have at least 4 levels in the stat you want to modify.  So, if you want to add a Luck modifier to a Glowing Ring, you must have taken at least 4 levels in Luck before Luck will show up as a possible modifier.  Well, technically, you only need 3 levels in the given stat, but I'll let you figure out why.  I can't do ALL the work for you after all.

Who can wear these rings?

Anyone that you can equip clothing items on, including Companions, Settlers, and Provisioners.  Heck, you can even "pickpocket" these things onto everyone else, although I have no clue why you'd do that.  Maybe you have some kind of sickness?

Where did you get that cool looking holo texture?

It is cool isn't it!  The blank holotape texture without writing or the glow effect is by TheCinnamonBun and Octotron, and can be found here:  Holotape Retexture.  Please note the glow effect was done by me and is not currently available outside of this mod.  If TheCinnamonBun grants permission, I will be happy to provide him with a separate patch he can setup on his mod page.  But I haven't heard from him yet.

How did you do the ring glow effects?

Well, to be honest, I have found most glow effect tutorials out there to be a bit lacking (not that I don't appreciate the effort different article writers and YouTubers have put forth to help).  So, if I have time, I will setup a written/graphic tutorial on the Nexus for it since there is actually more than one way to do it.  In the meantime, I would suggest you hit up YouTube and try and piece together what you can.
