the program is looking for FalloutLauncher.exe, like one reply had stated. I currently don't have the tools to modify the application nor have looked to see if i can even edit the compiled file to prove where it is happening, but it does work when changing the Fallout3.exe, from steam install, to FalloutLauncher.exe.
you can exit the program after it runs. like one poster stated, change it back to Fallout3.exe after it runs.
I think I managed to solve this problem! rename the executable "Fallout3" to "FalloutLauncher" and try again! then put the name that was before: "Fallout3"
@northtop WHO THE WHERE THE WHAT THE f*#@ ive installed this 3 times never had this issue but goddam you just saved me from going another year without fallout 3 in my life
Try Manual Version (Diretory Path Specifically for Steam):
Try the following: 1) Add "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa" to : Steam/steamapps/common/fallout 3/Data 2.) Go to : Steam/steamapps/common/fallout 3 3.) Find Fallout_default.ini 4.) Uncheck "Read Only" if you need to by "Right" clicking and unchecking "Read Only" 5.) Open file, Search for SArchiveList 6.) Once found add "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa" to the list before "Fallout - Textures.bsa". It will look like this SArchiveList=ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, ....etc.......etc 7.) Save the file 8.) Renable Read Only
Note: Since it is running from the Data Folder you might have to Toggle "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa" on via Mod Manager.
First Mod?:
FIRST MOD? Replace the following line in your Fallout.ini file: Navigate to "My Documents", then "My Games" then "Fallout3" folder. Open the "Fallout.ini" (with notepad program) press ctrl+f and search for : "bInvalidateOlderFiles=0", change the "0" to "1" and save.
Note: The "Fallout.ini" file will not appear in the folder until the game runs by selecting "Play"
I'm from the future many years late! But It bugged me that there was almost no help here for such a simple yet big problem to some people who are having problems using the Program Version that is supposed to just do this for you.
Hello, i have been having some issues with the archiveinvalidation invalidated recently. It seems that when ever i try to run the program, i get an error message saying "Cannot detect Fallout 3's folder! Please select Fallout 3's folder" i have navigated to Crogram FilesBethesda SoftworksFallout 3 and selected that and also Cocuments and SettingsTimMy DocumentsMy GamesFallout3 and for both of them i get an error message saying "This is not Fallout 3's folder" is there another folder i should be selecting or is there another issue that is causing a problem, any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

like one poster stated, change it back to Fallout3.exe after it runs.
edit: manual version works just fine. thanks for that.
Can anybody help to explain how to get this to work?
Found this on another post and it worked for me.

You keep expressing how 'easy' this is to use, yet a good deal of us have NO IDEA how to use it. How about some instructions?
