The TSC isback from the dead! Or will be. Let me make a few initial announcements as to what the plan is.
WHAT IS TSC RESURGENCE?
I have beenworking on the Fallout 4 release of the MZC mod for a while now. The story takesplace around a decade after the foundation of the TSC, so the organization is already in full bloom. It will shed some light on the events that happened after FO3. The mod will follow a storyline, much like the original Mothership Zeta Crew, instead of the TSCVegas open roleplay. I won’t gointo details about the story here, because it would take away the fun of actually playing it.
WHEN?
The bigquestion. I have twoclear publication windows in my head. At by the end of september I’ll make an official announcement where I’ll determine if I can manage to reach the first one or push it to the second one.
WHY?!
But why ohwhy Fallout 4? Manyreasons. The first and foremost being that… it simply happened. Without going into too much detail, a few years ago I was in a pretty dark place and I started playing Falout 4 VR. There was an embrionary version of the original attempt of modding TSC Boston laying around and I simply had a creative itch. I needed tocreate something for myself again, to remember what it was to do things for the heck of it, free of the pressures, restrictions and betrayals of the professional world. It was a therapeutic time sink. I started tweaking with it, and before I knew it, I had a faction again, so I decided to start preparing it for publication. Also, visibility. FO3 is a great game, but the modding community seems to have forgotten it in favor of vegas. About half the community only plays it using TTW, and I was told that implementing MZC into TTW would require a full rework from the ground up, and that is not something I have the energy or time to do. And why not vegas, then? Well, because I seem to be the only one who enjoys the idea behind TSC vegas haha
Also, fallout4 was screaming for TSC presence. My playthroughs felt empty if I could not continue the roleplay from the previous games. It got so ingrained in my headcanon that I simply felt a gap. A bit egotistical, pathological even, but what an I say? Too many hours invested into this, I suppose.
And VR. Ilike playing in VR. I simply can’t go back to playing Fallout or ES games without VR, and I mod for what I play. Don’t worry, though. The mod is created for FO4, not FO4 VR. This doesn’t affect the mod in any way other that I’ll make sure the interactors and stuff are placed in a vr friendly way.
While I can manage by myself playing the jack of all trades, there’s some places I can’t reach all that much into that would massively benefit from a specialist. At the moment I could really use the help of:
-Artists to make a nice TSC and Resurgence sets of armor, power armor and their standard weapon. -Animatorswho can prepare events to make the Valkyries truly shine and give interesting idles to breathe life to the NPC. Other thanthat? You can help spread the word a bit, so people who enjoyed the first mod know the TSC is making a comeback.
SHOULD IMAKE A PATREON? This is a dilemmaI have. A patreon could help me pay for commissions and get better and faster work. It would also provide incentive, since I would only touch the patreon money for commissions OR after a significant update (not informational, I mean released content). However, realistically,I don’t expect the patreon to give much, and in the end it could create friction with some people who think that by paying 5 dollars they somehow bought my eternal servitude. Having people breathing down your neck for a grand total of 50 dollars a month (with luck… and before taxes!) is not a very good deal haha However, Imight reconsider it. If you know of successful stories of modders this size regarding funding sites, I’m all ears.
AFTERPUBLICATION
The modwill be an ESM, a master file, much like the original one was. This makes it much easier for anyone who wants to tweak the mod to be able wo do so without problems. It worked so well with the first mod that I ended up convincing myself that I had done it by design, but in reality it had been because of a navmesh issue that forced me to make it into an ESM hahah Firstrelease will be quite large, but will not show its full potential. Once the thing is out in the open, I’ll be ready to accept more direct help and involvement to polish and establish better mechanics, but I want the first release to be fresh and not feel like everyone knows about every last thing that will be in the mod months before it comes out. (Actually Ioriginally aimed for a surprise release, straight to the mod, but the risk of making the mod grow and grow and grow forever was too great so I forced myself to reveal it.) I’d like torecruit and make the mod grow from then on, but what happens will massively depend on how popular the mod actually gets. It’s been good having this as a therapy project, but I’m not going to spend more years performing for an empty room.
WILL YOU CONTINUETHE FO3 MOD? OR THE VEGAS ONE?
Many thingscould happen, but it mostly depends on the engagement. Here are some possible scenarios, but NONE OF THEM IS A PROMISE.
-If theengagement is very high, I might recruit those willing to take care of the mod and form two teams, one for new vegas and one for FO3. I wouldn’t mod directly but I’d take the role of director. THIS IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN THIS DAY AND AGE. The modding scene is pretty much a professional industry now, and a mod like MZC, once impressive, is now just another drop in an ocean.
-If theengagement is high and a Fallout 3 remaster is announced, things could get interesting.
-If theengagement is low, I’ll consider this mod as a last farewell, a more organised one. I’ll salute those who remained and finally put the TSC to rest as I almost did years ago.
-If theengagement is mixed, it could be a middle point. It will depend on how much fun I’m having with it.
-If thingsgo south, passing the torch is also a possibility, but it would need to be someone I can trust in both character and skill. I don’t want to look into the TSC “universe” a few years later and find that it’s a giant mess or a strange mix of weird porn and propaganda haha Perhaps it would be better to just leave the thing “open”. We’ll see if we reach that point.
Well, thankyou for going through all this. A long text, but it’s been years. Hopefully we’re in the same page now.
I’ll keepmaking updates through this discord, which I suppose will become something of the official Discord server now haha https://discord.gg/tUFhnhNeAh
This firstone will also be posted on the nexus mod page, but I don’t think I should flood it. Not really designed for this kind of anouncements.
Cheers, mates. Long livethe TSC! Long liveCommander %PCName!
I had hoped you would one day finish this mod but I know exactly how you feel man I am in a simular situation. Have been for a while and my gaming community has all but died because of it. I am glad you are okay man I looked for updates for this mod every day, then once a month, then once a year, before I gave up hope and thought you may have checked out. I am happy you made it through man you arent alone, belive me. I am slowly coming out of it myself. Still don't feel like creating yet, but I get little itches off and on, and it feels amazing the times that it does come back, and I can enjoy it. I hope to make the same progress you have soon.
I love this mod man, one of my all time favourite mod experiences! always wanted a fallout 4 version of the TSC, i even made a settlement based on the TSC, ill be reinstalling fallout 4 instantaneously when the mod drops! i look forward to seeing McManus again and hearing his tales of Scottland XD
I'm happy you're gonna be making a TSC mod for fallout 4 and that you're back as well. But it would have been awesome if you could have finished this mod.
But hey, after such a long hiatus, you might not be feeling up to that. And that's fine, i'm just saying it would've been cool to finally have the complete story for this mod. That's all, have a good one.
Two questions, does this mean you'll be discontinuing the original mod for Fallout: 3, and if so could you perhaps look into publishing the design documents, sort of like what transpired with Fallout: Van Buren?
Personally, I don't really see a point in not doing that, if you have no intentions of releasing the final chapter.
(It's been the better half of fifteen years.)
Not a big fan of FO4 myself, will certainly be playing the content you release regardless, but I'm an FO3 and FNV man by nature. Ultimately, I believe we must honor the roots and carry on the legacy there, no matter how obsolete the Gamebryo Engine is.
Fallout 3 holds a special place for me on my all time gaming list and this mod was one of the best mods I had ever played. I'm hoping with all the rumours of a Fallout 3 Remake/Remaster that I will get to experience this mod again.
One day I'm going to play through this mod and experience the joy of it. I hope the mod Creator can come back and finish it either here or maybe with ttw. Unfortunately this mod doesn't fit into my current ttw playthrough given the reliance I have on rebuild of the capital and since these two mods do very similar things I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work together. I am however looking forward to my adventure with this mod in the future. I've tried playing it with it in the past but was never able to get to it due to various issues I had with fallout 3. Can't wait to play it in the future and can't wait to see you hopefully come back and finish this in one shape or form!!

I've actually been on it for quite a while. I've only published this because It's reached a point where I'm sure the thing won't sink.
