If you experience some difficulties understanding RI and its healing, there is the "Help" on the pause menu. While not updated for RiPnO, it does explain the basics.

    For quick clarification:

    -- Convenience Menu Foods

You have the vanilla foods in addition to the home cookin. Home's where your hearth is.. The vanilla foods is like this:

    • Candy
These do nothing special in RiPnO, but will cause sugar rush in PnS. It satiates the least. When using FOOK, some of these items may heal you with the Child at Heart perk.

    • Junk food
Junkfood are TV dinners, donuts and the likes. In PnS they will have sugar and flabfactor. In RiPnO they don't do squat except fill a little bit better than candy.

    • Preserved foods. Dried, Canned or frozen foods.
Fills the tummy slightly better than Junk Food.

    • Raw
Raw meat. Fills better than preserved food. There are no veggies or fruits here, although I used that to start with.
The reason for that is explained below.

    • Prepared foods.
Iguana, Squirrel Stew etc. Fills better than raw, but still not as well as home cooked or special meals.

-- Home Cooked/Recipes Meals fills the most and has slightly improved rad/heal values over their raw equivalents. In addition, they regenerate health (also non-crippled limbs) over time, depending on potency.
Currently, there are only 2 recipes in RiPnO. One is found in Springvale school, lower level. The other in Arefu.
Locations may change in PnS or updated RiPnO versions, but I'm pretty sure at least one recipe (fruitcake?) will be found in Arefu.

-- You also have meals that are close to homecooked from the vanilla game, but these are not in the convenience list and must be selected from the Pipboy. Such as Nukalurk, Nuka Pie, questionable meats etc.

-- Vegetables and fruits are not in the convenience menu simply because they are few and needed for recipe meals.
I still lack recipes for most of the grown foods, so unless I release another version with more recipes, just eat them. They fill the same as raw meats (for now).
Once PnS nears completion I might upgrade RiPnO with some more meals.
Fruits and Veggies does not deal any rad damage.

-- Quickpatch bandages(via pipboy or used in first aid kit)

As it implies, a QUICK slap-on bandage for ease of use in combat (when from the pip boy). While its healing potential is miniscule, it's regardless needed to keep your head in one piece and internal organs on the inside. Best used to heal a crippled head out of combat. Slight regenerative effect while out of combat.

-- Bandages and Ointments (RiPnO addition)

More time consuming than quickpatches, and as such can only be used out of combat. Somewhat better healing ability and the possibility of utilizing your medical skills. It does not apply a regenerative effect.

-- Medical Braces (first aid kit)

Out of combat use. Regenerative effect while out of combat. Falls off by itself when it's no longer useful. Wearing one hampers your movements. Wearing five of them might topple you into the next ravine on your way through the wasteland.

    -- Tourniquet (via pipboy)

Stops the blood from gushing out of you. Plenty useful when heavily wounded. Otherwise other means may be more prudent.

-- Wounds Care Kit (via pipboy)

Good regenerative effect over a few minutes. Deals with bleeding, although it takes time.

-- Cure Wounds (first aid kit)

Implies a decent skill in medicine. Uses a bloodpack and a quickpatch(or bandage & ointment if available) to properly deal with bleeding wounds. The out of combat alternative to Tourniquets. Slight regenerative effect on general health.

Note: I may rename this function to "Treat Wounds" for RiPnO.

-- Heal Limbs (minor, major)( first aid kit )

Implies some medicine skills for use. Out of combat use.

One shot heal using a stim or superstim, a quickpatch (or bandages & ointment if available). Med skill & doctor kit tools will affect healing amount.

    -- Healing Powder (from pipboy)

Minimal healing amount with a chance of addiction.

-- Doctor kit tools and consumables (RiPnO addition)

Different items to different ends. All tools are being used in creation of consumables. Tools and consumables both are used in healing, one way or another. The creation of certain items also requires stuff you find all around. So keep your teddy close, and hold on to that hooch.
