The aquarium is way, way, WAY bigger than it needs to be - about twice the size of a workbench. I shrank it to a 0.28 scale! The other issue regarding the workbench can be worked-around if you have fose installed and can cope with simple console commands.
Type the three letters gbo to get the base id, and simply use commands to create another workbench using: player.placeatme [base id] Now use getpos, setpos, getangle and setangle commands to positon your new workbench. Do so AFTER installing the aquarium because the aquarium may break the crafting function of any original or pre-existing workbench in the Megaton house.
You can use the same console commands to add and move another aquarium (or any other item) anywhere else, such as if you want to put one in another home. And the commands getscale and setcale can be used to change the size of it - or the sizes anything else for that matter. You should find when you first place a new or cloned item this way that the scale is 1, and you can change this from 0 up to higher than 1 (how high I don't know, I've never more than doubled the size of anything, i.e. 2.00). I use between 0.28 and 0.44 for my 3 aquaria.
When moving the aquarium don't become disheartened if it goes dark after being moved around a bit. Once you quit and reload the game it's original level of light will return. This is true of moving other things too - they seem to cease to function and the game doesn't move the mesh's collision until you reload either, so the moved item will have no solidity while it's initial positon leaves an invisible obstacle. Reloading fixes this, but prior to that point you may get stuck and in any case will probably need to use the toggle command: tcl - to turn collisions off or back on again while generating and arranging items. The changes will persist after saving the game unless you reinstall any relevant parent file or mod. Sounds complicated but take it from a novice, after a couple of times it becomes second nature - very time consuming though. One final tip - make a save immediately before doing all of this so that you can easily undo any changes if you screw up.
I know I'm a couple of years late, lol! But I just got back to playing FO3. I love the aquarium! My only regret is that I can't buy one for my other houses. Very nice job :o)
Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but the sounds tend to play constiantly. As soon as I baught it from Moria, the tank sound fx continusly play, even when it isnt in my inventory and im wandering the waistes. May wanna check that out.
