patch 1.4 doesnt like mods. so any mod files you have that arent original fallout content (broken steel, ancorage, the pit and point lookiout) will cause crash to desktop.
the way around the crash to desktop is to convert files in fomm http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640
by using fo3edit http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id
you need to convert the downloaded fo3edit into fo3masterupdate to do this. to do this simply go to the fo3edit folder and rename the EXE from FO3Edit.exe into FO3MasterUpdate.exe
now doubleclick on the FO£MasterUpdate.exe and it will convert all the plugins that are checked in the launcher. after the program did its job clsoe it and run the game. hopefully all crashes resolved
I just found out from playing Point Lookout that you need to have this Patch Official Fallout 3 Patch 1_4_0_6 found here--> ( http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4612 ) installed if you want to head to the South Western areas of Lookout. when I came close to Blackwell manor, the game crashed and when to the desktop... Then I re-enstalled this Patch and all was well.
Just a heads up people. And also This patch also caused a error such as not being able to save your game. Loading is fine but saving caused my game to crash. Its something to do with the mods or just causes a conflict somewhere.. I dunno...anyone else had this prob?
I can't think of any game that has been released since the 1980's that isn't full of bugs.
Maybe they figure that if MicroSh_t can have buggy (un)opperating systems like Xtra Pathetic and Sh_tsta then why should they give us something that works for our hard earned money.
I went back and did a clean install and it was nice not having the tweaky gun in hand bug for awhile, but I wanted to try the pitt so I patched it and I gotta admit my fps jumped up considerably; but it'd be nice if the patches didn't create new worse bugs than we had before. I think tweaky gun in hand is a semi-gamebreaker. if I used vats, I'm sure that'd suck 2. nice framerates, though.

Thank God for the Internet and modders.
You can't get away with releasing a buggy game
No one has ever done anything useful with a beta version
