Early 2023 review: Like many other people in this section, I also installed this mod as very first in long gone 2011 when I was bored with main game and did little steps in new modding community of Fallout 3. Replayed it today and I must say that Mole Rat Maze is still the best introduction for any player who wants to understand what can you expect from modding Fallout 3. With this mod you will have one new dungeon which is curated by voiced ghoul (pretty decent for amateur work) and about 1 hour of new content within game. Don't expect hard enemies from something like A World Of Pain mod, but more like one of the first dungeons that you can do right from the get go after you enter Capital Wasteland. Content is very lore-friendly despite author's choice of using vault 111 scientists in story of maze (don't forget, it was 2009, nobody could've predicted main plot and inital vault of Fallout 4), but don't be afraid about immersion break because their integration is pretty light retconning, if we remember events in Fallout 4. More so, additional audiologs and notes suggest that these scientists could literally escape Vault 111 before our Sole Survivor was awakened from cryo-chamber. As for the main plot and origin of maze, it was in the style of all other canon Fallout events which is why new content feels natural in game world. Don't want to go deeper because you need to experience it for yourself, especially if you're low level and want to have some more exploration gameplay with fun action. Should you try this mod in 2023? Absolutely, short, but stable (no conflicts within 346 plugins collection with major mods like D.C. Interiors, AWOP and etc.) adventure which, even after 12 years from my first modded playthrough, feels good to experience again. And as the quote goes - The Secret Of Mole Rat Maze aged like a fine wine. And it's good to be back there. P.S. Not included by original author of the collection, but I completed mod with VegasStephen Fallout 3 Rebirth+ Mod Collection without any problem.
I feel like I must be missing something. I got through the maze, found the MROUs and the hearts and everything, but when it tells me to go back to Ellie I can't find her. She's not in the usual spot, and the quest target keeps directing me to the sign just before you enter the maze proper.
Short, but very fun to play mod. The maze is great, I liked all to small details like holotapes and notes. I played the mod on heavily modified F3 (FWE, MMM, WMK, CRAFT, CALIBR, AWOP, Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch and many other quest mods) a I didn't have any CTD. It's nothing groundbreaking, but definitely enjoyable. You've got a solid semi-short dungeon maze with environmental factors, minor challenges, and some adequate rewards. No low points, I had a nice time the whole way through. It's fair to say this is worth giving your time.
Excellent mod. The maze is done superbly, with its pleasantly creepy atmosphere and interesting findings scattered around (so explore carefully). Besides being technically perfect (got through it without a single issue) it's full of great little details, interesting story, a bit of romance... ;-) And the main character - a nice ghoul lady Ellie Mae - is voiced, so that is a big plus. All in all, wonderful work and really fun to play.
This is a great quest mod. It worked out well that I had the canon Wasteland Survivor Mole Rat quest going at the same time.That, plus I had the radiation perks so I was able to survive without needing tons of RadX and RadAway.
The caves were done well, and you ended up exploring a lot of it before finding the end. The exit to the inner chamber is behind stacked barrels that you can move on the left side of the cave from the entrance.I blew myself up the first time I shot them, so be warned to move them by hand or stand way back.
This mod is compatible with other quest mods, FWE, MMM, WMK, Fellout, CRAFT, CALIBR, UPP, MTC and the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch. It has an ESM header even though it's an ESP. For load order, put it directly after all esm files and before the standard esp files.
