As a nuclear medicine tech... You would get radiation from swimming in it. Washing only reduces the exposure. Radiosotopes love skin. Very hard to remove from skin and nails. RadWash (real product) doesnt work very well. Your hands can be hot (radioactive) for a day (technecium - minor x-ray type exposure). I-131 (dirty bomb and medical therapy) in your system 6 months [destroys your thyroid]. Thallium - 2 weeks (minor x-ray type exposure). Stronger sources (fallout) and radiation piosioning are deadly. These kill your germ cells in your intestines (lining sloughs off, bleeding and death), your blood/marrow germ cells (rapid anemia) etc. I post more if I can did up more school notes. BTW don't lose sleep over medical x-rays, despite the hype. Lastly some short range (inches) radiation can be stopped with paper and plastic (but very strong to your skin).
Also you would get radiated when you swim in it. Even when you wash yourself afterwards. The Skin will absorb a part of the water, therefore you will be radiated. Also the Water will radiate by itself, every radiated object does that.
