You should look at the legion, or all those raider with chinese swords, knifes, lead pipes, etc. Hell even Star Paladin Cross prefers going with her massive super sledge, Fawkes too; Clover also uses a sword , many super mutants use nail boards, etc... Think first then post with a bit of that thought.
And just think about it "realisticly" ,.... you run out of ammo and there are a bunch of ghouls tryin to eat you; , a melee weapon would really come useful in those situations, and a sharp sword or katana would really be up for the job.
