It's weird though. Without the archiveinvalidation it was working for only the scoped .44 magnum but not this gun, and after I edited the archiveinvalidation it worked fine for both. Oh well, I guess it's fixed now.
Well I don't think this has anything to do with archive invalidation. If you use my model - ie. the .nif file - it looks for proper textures in the aforementioned directory. If the files are missing, it uses the default, vanilla, textures. So once you place the texture files where they have to be, everything is OK and you don't have to modify anything else.
I don't know what you do wrong, but all you need is to simply copy the new files magnumpistol.dds and magnumpistol_n.dds (the version you like) to directory Fallout 3Datatexturesweapons1handpistol - and all works.
I will not use exactly this retex, but I will try to create several simple recolored version of the vanilla texture for unscoped gun. I can't promise when but check it here form time to time. ">
