Hi. Thanks for porting those LOD mods to Fallout 3. Endorsed! I have some questions: 1 - Am I correct in assuming that dinernosign_lod.nif was made for dinernosign.NIF and not for diner01.NIF? I was curious because, according to FO3Edit, the nosign model is only used in L'Enfant Plaza. It seems that all other places in the Capital Wasteland use diner01.NIF, the one with the big Dots Diner sign on its side. 2 - Is highwayoverpassramp01altnv_lod.nif a leftover from New Vegas? I haven't seen it anywhere in the game.
1. yeah you're right, but maybe it could also be used as lod diner0.nif effectively. 2. yeah, anything with nv at the end is New Vegas and is ignored by the game, though I thought I deleted all of those. Must have uploaded the wrong file.
Looking at the file tree, everything should be good though, and if you want to try to repurpose dinernosign_lod.NIF by copying it and changing it's name to diner01_lod.NIF, I imagine there will be no issues. Slight possibility they changed the sizes of dinernosign.nif and diner0.nif , though that is very unlikely.
If you have success with that, let me know and I'll include it in an update, and if the sizes are off, I'll resize it and add it in an update.
edit: actually looking at the non lod versions of both, the only difference is the one with the sign has a sign external to it on the ground a few metres away. So this mesh would be perfect for diner01. Cheers for the info
I tested it a few minutes ago, and copying and renaming dinernosign_lod.nif to diner01_lod.nif worked as intended. I noticed that the diner model used in Grisly Diner is named diner_fortified.nif, so applying the same method should work. The difference in the fortified model is that its windows are covered with metal (it's a Raider camp). Thanks for the help.
Quick note: the mod includes a truckarmy02static_lod.nif, but I only found truckarmy01.nif and truckarmyhulk.nif in the game. I also didn't see any references to it in Much Needed LOD FO3.esp.
That's good to know about the diners. I'll rename them and put them in an update. I'm almost sure those two army trucks you mentioned have lod either in the game or one of the mods. I'll take a look because if not, truckarmy02static_lod could be repurposed. I had repurposed a few cars too with the texture colours changed but I lost those files somewhere. I'll do it again sometime. If there's no use for truckarmy02static_lod, it's just folder clutter and wont be read by the game. So I'll remove it in an update. Cheers
That updated *very experimental* LODgen linked here is a lot more complicated to use than the one from 2018 on the nexus...You should maybe put a warning for beginners like me. In other news how do you completely remove LODgen from your game because I can't find uninstall instructions anywhere to do that except very vaguely on reddit. Which files specifically does it add and why is there no uninstall for them in 2025 like every other mod out there lol. Unless I'm missing something obvious its just textures & meshes in a landscape folder right?
